Noida International Airport Begins Commercial Operations, Boosting UP’s Aviation Ambitions

New Delhi, June 2026 : Commercial flight operations from the newly developed Noida International Airport at Jewar are set to commence on Monday, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to strengthen its aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity.

Officials said domestic airline IndiGo will become the first carrier to launch scheduled services from the airport, ushering in a new era for air travel in northern India.

The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow at 7:05 a.m. and land at Noida International Airport at 8:05 a.m. Soon after, the airport’s first regular commercial service will operate to Bengaluru, connecting the region with one of the country’s leading technology hubs.

Situated in Gautam Buddh Nagar district within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, the airport is among the flagship infrastructure projects of the Uttar Pradesh government. Authorities believe it will significantly enhance connectivity while transforming the region into a major aviation and logistics centre.

The first phase of the airport has been completed with the capacity to handle approximately 12 million passengers annually. Key infrastructure developed under this phase includes a runway, an integrated terminal building and an advanced air traffic control tower.

The airport received its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on March 6, 2026, paving the way for the launch of commercial operations.

Spread over nearly 1,334 hectares, the airport project has been designed in four phases to accommodate long-term growth in both passenger and cargo traffic. According to official projections, the airport’s annual passenger-handling capacity is expected to rise to 30 million by 2031, 50 million by 2036 and 70 million by 2040.

Once fully developed, the airport is planned to feature five runways and an annual capacity of 225 million passengers, potentially placing it among the world’s largest airports.

The facility is expected to serve passengers not only from western Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR), but also from neighbouring states such as Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

IndiGo plans to gradually expand operations from the airport, connecting it with more than 16 destinations across the country. These include Lucknow, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Srinagar and Pantnagar, among others.

The airport was inaugurated earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described it as a key driver of economic growth and connectivity in the region.

The Uttar Pradesh government estimates that the project will generate nearly one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities. In addition, it is expected to attract substantial investments in industrial development, logistics, warehousing, hospitality and allied sectors, further accelerating economic activity in the region.

With the launch of commercial operations, Noida International Airport is poised to become a major gateway for northern India and a catalyst for regional development in the years ahead.
