Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Inspects Patna Collectorate Building, Issues Directions to Officials
Patna, March 2026: Nitish Kumar inspected the building of the Patna Collectorate and reviewed the ongoing development works there.
During the visit, the Chief Minister examined several sections of the building, including the meeting hall on the fifth floor, the office of the Deputy Development Commissioner–District Council, and the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar). He also inspected all floors of the Collectorate building.
Nitish Kumar also reviewed the construction work of a road being built from Collectorate Ghat to Sabhyata Dwar. He said that once completed, the road will make it easier for devotees to perform rituals during Chhath Puja. The road will also benefit people who come for morning walks and will enhance the grandeur of Collectorate Ghat. The Chief Minister directed officials to complete the construction work at the earliest.
He further instructed officials to expedite the completion of the office building for the Senior Superintendent of Police within the Collectorate premises. The Chief Minister also inspected the double-decker bridge and directed officials to complete the remaining work quickly in coordination with Patna Metro Rail Corporation so that better connectivity with the metro network can be ensured.
It may be noted that during the Chief Minister’s “Nishchay Yatra” in 2017, a review meeting was held in the old Collectorate complex, after which the deteriorating condition of the old buildings was assessed. Considering their dilapidated state, the government decided to demolish the old structures and construct a new Collectorate building at the same site along the banks of the Ganga River.
The new Patna Collectorate building has been constructed on a 632-acre site, with a total built-up area of 28,388 square metres, significantly larger than the old complex. The new campus houses the office of the District Magistrate, the District Council office-cum-District Development Building, and the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar).
Special attention has been given to environmental sustainability in the construction. The complex includes a water treatment plant, a sewage treatment plant, and a 40-kilowatt solar power system. Parking facilities have also been developed, with space for 204 vehicles in open parking and 240 vehicles in the basement.
In compliance with the directions of the Patna High Court, pillars from the main building of the old Collectorate have been preserved and displayed within the campus as a heritage element reflecting the legacy of the historic structure.
Several officials accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection, including his Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Secretaries Kumar Ravi and Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, Special Officer Gopal Singh, and District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan S M, along with other officials.
