Telangana Appoints Former DGP Shivadhar Reddy as State Security Advisor; Hanumantha Rao Named BC Welfare Advisor

Hyderabad, April 2026 : The Telangana government on Thursday appointed outgoing Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy as the State Security Advisor (SSA), entrusting him with a key role in guiding the state on critical security and law enforcement matters.

According to a Government Order (GO), Shivadhar Reddy will serve in the position for a period of three years from the date he assumes charge. In his new role, he will advise the government on a wide range of issues, including policing, law and order, internal security, crime prevention, narcotics control, and road safety. The post carries the rank and status equivalent to that of the Chief Secretary, underlining its importance within the administrative framework.

The GO also specified that Shivadhar Reddy will receive a fixed monthly remuneration of Rs 2.25 lakh. In addition to office accommodation, he will be entitled to either rent-free housing or a house rent allowance of Rs 50,000 per month. The government will also provide him with an official vehicle and necessary staff, including an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), a private secretary, a personal assistant, two drivers, and four supporting personnel.

Shivadhar Reddy retires from active service on April 30 after completing his tenure as the state’s top police officer. The government has already appointed C.V. Anand as the new Director General of Police.

In a parallel development, the state government has named senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao as an advisor for Backward Classes (BC) welfare and development. He will hold the rank and status of a Minister of State during his tenure.

The appointment was formalised through a separate Government Order issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. As per the order, Hanumantha Rao will be placed at Article 18 in the state’s Warrant of Precedence, a designation granted personally for the duration of his term without altering the official hierarchy.

A former Member of Parliament and a veteran Congress leader, Hanumantha Rao was recently in contention for a Rajya Sabha seat from Telangana. However, the party nominated Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy, both of whom were elected unopposed. While Singhvi secured a second term, Narender Reddy made his debut in the Upper House.

These appointments reflect the government’s effort to strengthen both its security apparatus and social welfare initiatives through experienced leadership.
