Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii Attends MGNSA Conference

Aizawl, May 2026: Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii attended the 23rd Conference of the Mizoram Government Nursing Service Association (MGNSA) held today at the Conference Hall of Aizawl Civil Hospital. The theme of this year’s MGNSA Conference was “Soft Skill for Nurses.”

Pi Lalrinpuii said that the nursing profession is not an ordinary job; it requires dedicated individuals with compassion, patience, commitment and a strong spirit of service. She stated that the Mizoram government recognises the importance of nurses and, to address staff shortages, more than 300 nurses were recruited in April 2025 when the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme was launched. In addition, 10 permanent Nursing Officers have also been recruited.

The Minister further said that 40 nurses would soon be recruited on a contract basis under the Health & Family Welfare Department, while 10 Senior Nursing Officers would also be appointed shortly. Regarding nursing education, she said the results of the MPSC written examination for nine Tutor posts and one Warden post in Nursing Schools are awaited. Advertisements for five Assistant Professor posts in Nursing Colleges are also expected soon. Pi Lalrinpuii added that although shortages cannot be resolved all at once, the Mizoram government is committed to continuing efforts for steady improvement.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives to strengthen Aizawl Civil Hospital, the Minister said a new Cath Lab and MRI machine, along with various other equipment, have been installed. An Arthroscope machine costing Rs 1.2 crore was purchased using funds collected through the CESS initiative. Preparations are also underway to begin kidney transplant services, with equipment being procured and healthcare personnel already sent to Kolkata for specialised training.

She further stated that the government has sanctioned funds for a VIP power line to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at Civil Hospitals during power outages, and has also approved the purchase of a new Oxygen Pump machine.

Pi Lalrinpuii said preparations have also been completed at Zoram Medical College Hospital (ZMCH) to start cardio-thoracic surgery services, and medical personnel have undergone training at PGI Chandigarh. A new CT Scan facility has already been commissioned, while additional CT Scan machines have been installed at Siaha and Champhai. The government has also sanctioned funds for a new Oxygen Plant.

She added that the new building of Mamit District Hospital is fully ready for occupation, while construction work is ongoing for district hospitals in Serchhip, Kolasib and Hnahthial.

The conference was attended by officials from the Directorate of Nursing and MGNSA members from different parts of Mizoram. Two recipients of the National Florence Nightingale Award — Pi V. Lalhmangaihi, Nursing Officer, and Pi H. Mankimi, Senior Nursing Officer — along with Nursing Officer Pu Lalhmingmawia Thangluah, were honoured during the programme.

MGNSA President Pu H.S. Lalremtluanga delivered the presidential address. The gathering also observed a condolence session in memory of one member who passed away during the 2024–2026 MGNSA conference term. A farewell was accorded to 51 retiring members. Vice President Pu Zoramchhana delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the programme.
