Preeti Clinches Commonwealth Games Gold in Women’s 54kg Boxing
Glasgow, Aug 2026 : India’s Preeti delivered a dominant performance to claim the gold medal in the women’s 54kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games 2026, defeating Canada’s S.S. Delgado by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final at SEC Hall 5 on Saturday.
The Indian boxer controlled the bout from the opening bell, combining sharp combinations, quick footwork and disciplined defence to keep Delgado under constant pressure. All five judges awarded Preeti each of the three rounds by a 10-9 margin, resulting in a comprehensive 30-27 verdict in her favour.
Preeti also registered a knockdown during the contest, further underlining her dominance and leaving her Canadian opponent with little opportunity to mount a comeback.
Maintaining an aggressive but calculated approach, the Indian pugilist dictated the pace of the fight and consistently found openings with accurate punches. Her movement and tactical awareness prevented Delgado from establishing any sustained momentum.
The unanimous decision capped an impressive campaign for Preeti and added another gold medal to India’s growing haul at the Glasgow Games.
The triumph represents a major milestone in the boxer’s career and further strengthens India’s reputation in women’s boxing at the Commonwealth level. Preeti’s composed performance in the final also highlighted the depth and quality within India’s women’s boxing contingent.
With Indian boxers continuing to produce strong results in Glasgow, Preeti’s victory provides another major boost to the country’s medal campaign and adds to a memorable day for the Indian contingent.
