Agricultural scientists advise farmers to prevent diseases like stem borer, Banki and blight in paddy crop
So far in the current Kharif season in Chhattisgarh, various crops have been sown in 48.16 lakh hectare area. While the state government has set a target of 48.63 lakh sowing in this season. Among these, paddy crop is mainly sown. There has been good rainfall this year. But despite good rainfall, due to strong sunlight and changing weather in recent days, symptoms of diseases like stem borer, banki and blight are appearing in paddy crop in some districts. The Agriculture Department has given many important suggestions to farmers to prevent these diseases.
Agriculture Department officials said that farmers can use pheromone traps and light traps to prevent stem borers. It is advised not to use Forate for the control of brown maho pest. If the pest infestation becomes severe, then Imidacloprid or Ethiprop$Imidacloprid drugs can be used.
It is advisable to spray fungicides like tricyclazole, isoprothiolane, or tebuconazole when symptoms of blight disease appear in the paddy crop. It will be more effective if spraying is done after 3 pm, and it will need to be repeated at an interval of 10 to 15 days.
When symptoms of bacterial blight (bahripan) disease appear, it is advised to drain out water from the field and leave it open for 3-4 days and spray at the rate of 25 kg potash per hectare. Spraying of hexaconazole can prove useful for sheath blight disease.
The Agriculture Department has advised farmers to manage drainage in pulses and oilseed crops properly and maintain continuous monitoring of pests and diseases in the crop. Field officials have been activated to provide necessary information and guidance to farmers to prevent diseases and pests in paddy crop. Farmers can contact their nearest rural agriculture extension officer or agriculture department for more information.
