‘Mahapreet’ Should Lead Change in Affordable Housing, Solar Energy, and Artificial Intelligence in the State – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Mumbai – Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technologies Limited (Mahapreet) is set to spearhead transformation in the state in the fields of affordable housing, solar energy, and artificial intelligence. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the organization to expedite quality work on various projects across the state.

The 25th meeting of the Board of Directors of Mahapreet concluded yesterday (October 11) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shinde. He addressed the attendees, including Managing Director Bipin Shrimali, other departmental representatives of the Board of Directors, and senior officers of Mahapreet.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that a cluster project is being effectively implemented in Thane city through Mahapreet, which will provide thousands of affordable housing units for rehabilitation. This initiative aims to fulfill the dreams of many individuals aspiring to own their rightful homes. He also noted that Mahapreet is making significant strides in the solar energy sector both within the state and internationally. The Chief Minister’s Small Industries Solar Roof Scheme is expected to supply renewable energy to 10,000 small and medium industrial units across the state. Additionally, a solar power project alongside the Samriddhi Highway will enhance the character of the highway by generating energy. Mahapreet has also been offered an opportunity to develop a solar power project for the Goa Energy Development Convergence, which acknowledges the world-class work being done by the organization.

In this meeting, the Mahapreet Board of Directors approved several key proposals, including:

  1. Components of the Thane Cluster Development Program, which includes the construction of 5,213 rehabilitation residential units valued at approximately ₹1,650 crores on two vacant plots in Kisan Nagar, Thane.
  2. Formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for implementing cluster development projects in Thane.
  3. Approval for developing clusters in Kisan Nagar, Kopri, and Lokmanya Nagar in Thane under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
  4. Approval for the appointment of a Project Development Management Consultant (PDMC) for the Maharashtra Chemical Logistics Park (MCLP), covering more than 1,000 hectares of land, at an estimated cost of ₹1,372 crores.
  5. Approval to raise ₹10,000 crores for the AIF Thane Cluster Development by Mahapreet.
  6. Approval of a project for a 400 MW capacity solar initiative for the MSME sector in India, aimed at supporting 10,000 small and medium industrial units in the state under the “Chief Minister Lagh Udyog Solar Chhat Yojana (MLSY).” This initiative is one of the largest rooftop solar schemes in the country.

Furthermore, instructions were issued for Joint Venture Agreements (JVA) with MSRDC for the Hinduheart Balasaheb Thackeray Samriddhi Solar Projects and with NTPC Green for further action on 10 GW renewable energy projects and 30 MW solar projects for the Goa Energy Development Convergence.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of various solar, wind-solar hybrid projects, and the AI project conducted at Davos in December 2023.
