Yogi govt to train 82,120 girls in sports through ‘One KGBV, One Sport’ scheme
Lucknow : The Yogi government has accelerated its efforts to bring the sports talents of 82,120 girls studying in Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya to the national level. The government aims to achieve this by implementing the ‘One KGBV, One Sport’ scheme.
Under the leadership of Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh, a specific sport will be selected for each school, and the students will receive specialised training. This initiative will help the girls acquire proficiency in specific sports fields in order to excel in national level contests and championships and at the same time stay physically and mentally healthy.
The ‘One KGBV, One Sport’ scheme has been implemented in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBVs) to nurture the sports talents of girls and bring them to the national level. This initiative is designed to provide specialized sports training to girls from marginalized and underprivileged communities.
Under this scheme, each school will select a specific sport in which students will be trained by sports experts. The program will begin as a pilot project in two KGBVs per district, with plans to expand to other schools upon its success.
The main aim of this scheme is to train the 82,120 students studying in KGBVs for participation in state and national-level competitions. This initiative will not only provide the girls with sports kits and basic training but will also ensure their selection for various competitions at the district and state levels.
A sports committee will be formed in each school, comprising the warden, physical education teacher, sports in-charge, and two sports students. This committee will select a sport based on the student’s interests and the available resources. A qualified female coach will be appointed to provide training in the chosen sport. If needed, assistance from external sports trainers can also be utilized.
Under the scheme, a set schedule will be established for conducting sports activities, where trainers will teach the students the nuances of the sport. Nutrition and health awareness programs will also be organized to educate the students about diet, nutrition, and health for better well-being. Periodic health check-ups for the girls will be conducted as well.
Former national and international players will be invited to inspire the students. Girls who exhibit outstanding performance will be rewarded at the local level. Additionally, respected community members and departmental officials will be invited to school sports competitions to motivate and encourage the students.
For the successful implementation of the scheme, support will also be sought from state and national sports associations, as well as corporate groups. With the help of corporate groups, necessary sports equipment and other facilities will be made available to the girl students.
Selected students will be placed in designated nodal KGBVs for three months to receive specialized sports training. During this period, their accommodation, meals, and training will be fully taken care of. After the training period, the students will be sent back to their original KGBVs. Parental consent will be obtained before the transfer of students.
