Dhamtari: After studying engineering, Eklavya Sahu turned to farming

Nowadays, while the young generation is moving towards various jobs after getting educated, Eklavya Sahu of village Dudhwara in Magarlod development block of the district turned towards farming after studying engineering. Along with being educated, he was interested in gaining technical knowledge of farming. This was the reason why Eklavya grew chilli crop in his fields under the spice area expansion, which gives high yield with low cost and less water.

Eklavya Sahu, a young farmer of village Dudhwara, tells that he wanted to do farming after passing engineering in the year 2017-18, for this he contacted the Horticulture Department. Eklavya tells that with the guidance of the Horticulture Department, he got information about drip irrigation, pack house, seed pack scheme etc. under the National Agricultural Development Scheme and also came to know about the grant available for this. Taking advantage of the grant, Eklavya started growing chilli crop in his 12 acre area. He says that he gets 100 to 110 quintals of produce per acre from chilli farming and is earning a net income of two lakh rupees per acre. Eklavya says that although the chilli grown by him is sold very quickly in the district itself, but he also sends chilli to other districts for sale. Eklavya is thanking the government and administration for the grant received under the government schemes and the guidance of the horticulture department.
