Centers are now equipped with educational materials, smart TVs, and air conditioning to enhance learning environment for children
Lucknow : In its ongoing pursuit to ensure holistic development of women and children across Uttar Pradesh, addressing their health needs, theYogi Adityanath-led government is implementing various initiatives aimed at upgrading and modernizing Anganwadi centers.
As part of this effort, Anganwadi centers are being shifted from rented premises to government-owned buildings. Over the past six years, the state has witnessed the quality construction of more than 13,000 Anganwadi centers. Additionally, the construction of over 8,000 centers is currently underway, reflecting the government’s focus on enhancing infrastructure and delivering better services to communities.
CM Yogi Adityanath’s dedication to the growth and well-being of women and children has given Anganwadi centers a renewed significance among the public. In coordination with the Women and Child Development Department and the Panchayati Raj Department, the government is ensuring that all Anganwadi centers operate from quality-built premises. To achieve this, the government is utilizing the MGNREGA scheme to accelerate the construction of permanent centers, replacing those operating in rented spaces.
Under the MGNREGA scheme, the Yogi government has significantly advanced the construction of Anganwadi centers to improve facilities for women and children. In the financial year 2023-24, a total of 1,981 centers were completed.
This year, over 1,122 centers have already been constructed, with ₹13,262.15 lakh spent on the initiative so far. Currently, construction work is ongoing for more than 8,000 additional centers.
Progress Over the Years:
2019-20: 2,015 centers constructed
2020-21: 4,042 centers constructed
2021-22: 1,871 centers constructed
2022-23: 2,329 centers constructed
2023-24: 1,981 centers constructed
Notably, the state government is transforming Anganwadi centers into advanced facilities modeled after pre-primary schools. The focus is on providing early education through play and fostering holistic development during children’s formative years.
These centers are being equipped with modern amenities, including educational materials, smart TVs, and air conditioning for summers. Dedicated play areas, tables, chairs, and illustrated books are being provided to enhance the learning environment.
Additionally, facilities such as LPG cylinders, water purifiers, electrification, and toilets are being ensured to improve functionality.
These upgrades have significantly increased enrollment at Anganwadi centers. The government has set an ambitious target to modernize 75,000 centers across Uttar Pradesh by August 15, 2025. To achieve this, 18 quality standards have been established, and every center is being developed accordingly.
