Arvind Kejriwal’s Announcement: Women to Receive Rs. 2,100 Every Month Post Delhi Elections
Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister of Delhi and National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), made two important announcements on Wednesday aimed at benefiting the women of Delhi. Speaking to the media, Kejriwal stated, “Today, I have come to make two big announcements for the people of Delhi. Both of these announcements are for women. I had promised that I would give Rs. 1,000 to every woman. Today, in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Atishi, this proposal was passed. Now, this scheme is officially implemented in Delhi.”
The Chief Minister clarified that although the scheme has been approved, the actual transfer of funds will not happen immediately. He mentioned the election timeline, stating, “The elections will likely be announced in the next 10-15 days, so it will not be possible to transfer the funds to accounts just yet.” This delay in the process was acknowledged as a temporary setback.
Addressing concerns raised by some women regarding the adequacy of Rs. 1,000 in the face of rising inflation, Kejriwal accepted the feedback and said, “Some women have expressed that Rs. 1,000 is insufficient due to inflation. Therefore, starting tomorrow, registrations will open for Rs. 2,100 per month.” The revised amount aims to better meet the financial needs of women in the city.
Delhi’s CM Atishi emphasized that providing this financial support to women was a guarantee from Kejriwal, and it would be fulfilled. She added, “Arvind Kejriwal had promised to provide Rs. 1,000 per month to every woman in Delhi. Today, the Delhi government has fulfilled this promise. Now, Arvind Kejriwal has promised that if his government returns to power, every woman in Delhi will receive Rs. 2,100 per month. This is a guarantee from Kejriwal, and it will certainly be fulfilled.”
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia praised the announcement, asserting that it demonstrated the party’s commitment to real, people-centered politics. He remarked, “This historic announcement under the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ will provide Rs. 1,000 per month to Delhi’s women, which will increase to Rs. 2,100 after the elections. The Cabinet has approved this proposal. It will promote women’s economic independence and bring positive changes to their families. This initiative symbolizes the empowerment of women and their rights. Arvind Kejriwal has once again proven that his politics is based on the welfare and empowerment of the common man.”
This move is part of the ongoing efforts by AAP to provide financial assistance to women in Delhi. Following the Cabinet meeting’s approval, the scheme is now officially implemented. The Delhi Assembly elections are expected to be held early next year.
The Delhi Cabinet approved the “Chief Minister Mahila Samman Yojana,” under which women in the national capital will receive financial assistance of Rs. 1,000 per month, with the amount increasing to Rs. 2,100 after the February 2025 elections. Kejriwal confirmed this development on Thursday, emphasizing that the transfer of funds to beneficiaries’ accounts would only occur after the elections.
He elaborated, “Elections are likely to be announced in the next 15 days, so it’s not possible to transfer money into your accounts at this moment. However, the scheme has been implemented. During the planning of this scheme, many women came to me saying that Rs. 1,000 is too little due to high inflation. I am now announcing that from tomorrow, registration will begin for Rs. 2,100 per month under the Chief Minister Mahila Samman Yojana.”
Kejriwal further explained that in the next two to three days, AAP workers will go door-to-door for registration and provide the women with registration cards, which should be kept safe. “After the Delhi elections, the Rs. 1,000 per month scheme will be upgraded to Rs. 2,100 per month, and you will receive Rs. 2,100. Just as I implemented the Rs. 1,000 per month scheme, I will implement the Rs. 2,100 scheme as well,” he assured, alongside CM Atishi.
All women in Delhi are eligible to apply, provided they meet certain conditions, such as not being income taxpayers, government employees, or pensioners. Kejriwal also reminded that the Rs. 1,000 scheme was announced earlier this year in the annual budget speech. However, its implementation had been delayed due to his incarceration in a “false case.”
