Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M. K. Stalin’s Leadership in Providing Electricity to Houses:

Under the leadership of Honorable Chief Minister Mr. M. K. Stalin, Tamil Nadu has achieved the lowest electricity tariff in India for households. According to the March 2023 rate chart, Tamil Nadu offers the lowest cost for electricity compared to other states. For example, the cost for 100 units of electricity, including taxes, is Rs. 643 in Mumbai, Rs. 833 in Rajasthan, Rs. 618 in Madhya Pradesh, Rs. 693 in Uttar Pradesh, Rs. 689 in Bihar, and Rs. 668 in Maharashtra. In contrast, Tamil Nadu charges only Rs. 113 for the same.

This tariff for household electricity in Tamil Nadu is incomparable to other states, as it is the most affordable in India. Data and details regarding the electricity tariffs were released by Aravindh Kumar, following a study of various Indian states’ electricity rates for households. It was confirmed that Tamil Nadu’s electricity tariffs are the lowest in the country.

Tamil Nadu was the first to introduce subsidized electricity for households, under the leadership of Mr. M. K. Stalin. The state government has also introduced free electricity schemes for small farmers and certain industrial sectors. Furthermore, free electricity is being provided to rural households, with schemes covering a specific number of units for residential use every two months. For example, one household may receive up to 1,000 units over two months. For large households, this limit is 300 units.

While Tamil Nadu has not raised electricity tariffs for households, other states have increased their rates. In Tamil Nadu, residential areas enjoy a rate of Rs. 113 for the first 100 units, which is a significant saving compared to other regions.

The rates in other states are as follows:

  • Rajasthan: Rs. 833
  • Maharashtra: Rs. 668
  • Uttar Pradesh: Rs. 693
  • Bihar: Rs. 684
  • Madhya Pradesh: Rs. 643
  • Karnataka: Rs. 631
  • Chhattisgarh: Rs. 431
  • Other states have similarly high tariffs, but Tamil Nadu continues to provide the most affordable electricity.

This study, led by Aravindh Kumar, compares the electricity tariff systems across various Indian states, showing that Tamil Nadu’s rate of Rs. 113 is the lowest. This initiative by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leadership under Mr. M. K. Stalin has played a significant role in improving the welfare of the common people.
