Champhai Celebrates National Girl Child Day 2025
Champhai : The District Hub for Empowerment of Women and the District Programme Office organized a program to celebrate National Girl Child Day 2025 and mark the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme. The event took place at Govt. TM High School, Zote, and the District Hospital.
The main celebration at Govt. TM High School was led by Mr. Lalchhandama Renthlei, Headmaster of the school. Ms. K. Lalrinfimi, District Mission Coordinator, delivered a speech on the significance of National Girl Child Day and the BBBP scheme. She highlighted that National Girl Child Day has been observed since 2008 to promote the welfare and empowerment of girl children and to raise awareness about critical issues like the declining Child Sex Ratio (the number of girls per 1,000 boys aged below six years). She emphasized the importance of schemes like BBBP in addressing these challenges and mentioned related laws, including the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 and the Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994.
As part of the celebrations, a quiz competition for students was conducted under the guidance of Women & Child Development initiatives. The session was moderated by Mr. Rodingliana, a specialist in financial literacy.
Sanitary pads were distributed to girls to promote menstrual health and hygiene, marking an essential step toward improving their well-being.
In the afternoon, a program was held at the District Hospital to honor and support young girls. As part of this, financial assistance and essential items were distributed to the girls, continuing the tradition from previous years.
The District Programme Office is also organizing activities for girls, including badminton coaching and effective communication classes. To kick off the celebrations, a “Walk for the Girl Child” was conducted at Tlangsam on the eve of the event.
