8 years of transformation: Yogi govt’s mission to revolutionize education in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow : The Yogi Adityanath government has brought unprecedented reforms in Uttar Pradesh’s education sector over the past eight years. Since 2017, significant steps have been taken to enhance the quality of education from primary schools to higher institutions. From revitalizing dilapidated schools to establishing new universities, the government has remained committed to making education both robust and inclusive.
Through initiatives like Operation Kayakalp, the focus has shifted from merely providing education to empowering students for a global future. This transformation is not only elevating educational standards but also strengthening the foundation of a self-reliant and progressive Uttar Pradesh.
In 2017, children lacked basic necessities such as uniforms, shoes, and bags. The Yogi government revitalized schools under Operation Kayakalp, integrating them with modern facilities. The results are evident today, as 1.91 crore children have received two uniforms, sweaters, shoes, bags, and access to smart classrooms, libraries, toilets, and drinking water facilities. Additionally, funds are now sent directly to parents’ accounts every year.
Under the PM SHRI scheme, 1,565 schools are being equipped with modern facilities, while 6,481 new schools are being constructed to provide a better learning environment. A budget has been approved for 57 composite schools, offering education from pre-primary to 12th grade on a single campus.
Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalayas, previously limited to grades 8th, have been expanded to include up to the 12th grade, providing educational opportunities for poor girls. In addition, 22 primary and 11 upper primary schools have been established in Vantagiya villages, helping to connect rural children with mainstream education. Atal Residential Schools have also offered better education opportunities through integrated campuses.
New universities have been set up in Saharanpur, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Devipatan, and Moradabad, with three already operational. Modern courses in AI, 3D printing, drones, and robotics have been introduced in 150 ITIs, and 62 new ITIs have been built. Furthermore, Sanskrit education has been promoted, with scholarships introduced for the first time from Purva to Acharya level, and universities have been recognized for this initiative.
In line with the digital revolution, the Yogi government has targeted distributing smartphones and tablets to 2 crore youth, with 50 lakh already receiving these devices. Academies and schools are being rapidly developed to instill discipline and patriotism among the youth. Composite schools have expanded to the block and Nyaya Panchayat levels, with plans underway to create a new education hub.
