Chief Technical Examiner Inspects Ongoing Construction Works

Raipur : Chief Technical Examiner (Vigilance), Shri R. Puram, along with his team, conducted an inspection of various construction projects in Bilaspur, Mungeli, and GPM districts. The team assessed quality standards and collected samples for laboratory testing.

The inspection began with the District Court Building, where samples of bricks, steel rods, and concrete were gathered for testing at a Raipur-based lab. The columns and concrete quality were checked using NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) equipment, and the structural integrity of beams and columns on each floor was evaluated. The vigilance team also inspected the on-site laboratory, reviewed safety equipment lists, calibration records, and contractor-appointed technical personnel details. Officials were instructed to conduct tests at the Tilada-based factory manufacturing autoclaved bricks and maintain records of test reports. Safety measures at the site were found inadequate, prompting officials to ensure strict compliance or face action against the contractor. The labor camp at the district building was ordered to be relocated to a safer area.

Later, Shri Puram inspected the hockey stadium construction in Bahatarai, where structural discrepancies in the spectator gallery beams were identified. He instructed officials to consult designers and rectify the issue. Samples of bricks and rods were collected, and concrete quality was tested using advanced equipment. A separate laboratory was ordered to be set up for further testing.

The team then inspected the Mungeli to Paudi National Highway construction, checking the ongoing asphalting process. Bitumen samples were collected, and temperature measurements were taken. At one location, waste asphalt was being used as backfill in a minor bridge abutment, which was flagged as unacceptable. Officials were directed to replace it with selected soil.

The Water Resources Department’s canal construction in Pendra Road was also reviewed. Instructions were issued to improve soil compaction and enhance concrete quality. Similarly, the team examined the Khagri Reservoir Canal Lining, Gosari Anicut in Kota subdivision, and Chilhati Stop Dam in Kharang Division, ensuring that all projects met quality standards within the stipulated timeline.

Additionally, the Manku Group Water Supply Project under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Mungeli was inspected. Concrete quality was evaluated, and officials were instructed to ensure high-quality materials in the Bhainsajhar Community Water Supply Project. Shri Puram emphasized that a detailed report on all inspected projects would be prepared, and departmental officials would be required to submit a compliance report within 15 days.
