Agriculture in the State to Bloom with the Help of Japanese Technology
Delegation from Japan’s M2 Labo Institute Meets Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai – With the aim of introducing Japanese technology into the field of agriculture and helping one billion people through artificial intelligence-based solutions, the Government of Maharashtra will work with Japan’s M2 Labo Institute on soil rejuvenation, model farm creation, and greenhouse technology. The goal is to reduce malpractices in the marketing chain and empower farmers. Indian farmers will be educated and provided employment opportunities in Japan. The government aims to double farmers’ income with the help of Japanese technology, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The state government is taking various decisions for the development of the agricultural sector. Using modern technology, efforts are being made to enrich farming. Technology based on artificial intelligence is being applied for agricultural development. A policy based on artificial intelligence has been announced, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also called for collaboration between Japan and Maharashtra through the use of technology.
M2 Labo Japan is Suzuki’s agricultural arm and the first Suzuki-affiliated institution to be registered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Today, the institute’s chairperson, Ms. Yuriko Kato, met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. During the meeting, they discussed using Japanese technology to enrich agriculture in the state. Present at the meeting were M2 Labo CEO Ms. Yuriko Kato, Mitra Organization President Sameer Khale, M2 Labo India Managing Chairman Prasun Agarwal, Devang Ojha, and M2 Labo Japan Manager Masako Miyashita.
Ms. Yuriko Kato works under the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister of Japan for the on-ground implementation of the “Digital Garden City Nation” initiative.
During the meeting, the institute also expressed its desire to establish a Japanese Center of Excellence in the agricultural sector in the state, based on the concept of “M2 Smart Village Labo.” The objective of this initiative is to bring together Japanese and Indian companies in smart agriculture and to promote “AI for Sustainable Development – A4SD” through the concept of Society 5.0.
The institute also expressed its intention to significantly increase farmers’ incomes and, through its “Junior Village” concept, to inspire youth to choose farming as a career. Furthermore, there was discussion about providing opportunities to Indian agricultural laborers to work on Japanese farms, as the institute holds an official license to support their employment in Japan.
