Mumbai : On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) will pay tribute by broadcasting a documentary and a film based on his life. These will be aired tomorrow, Monday, April 14, 2025, on various social media platforms of DGIPR as well as on Doordarshan’s Sahyadri channel.

This year marks the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar. As part of the celebrations, DGIPR will telecast the documentary ‘Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar’ at 11 AM, followed by the film ‘Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth’ at 1 PM. Doordarshan Sahyadri will also broadcast the film at 1:30 PM.

About the Documentary ‘Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar’:
This rare 17-minute documentary features significant fictionalized and live-footage moments from Dr. Ambedkar’s life. Created by DGIPR through Films Division in July 1968, it showcases important events such as his conversion to Buddhism, visit to Nepal, and final journey at Dadar Chowpatty in Mumbai. Directed by Namdev Watkar under the banner of Watkar Productions, it features cinematography by Madhukar Khamkar, editing by G.G. Patil, music by Datta Davjekar, and narration by veteran actor David Abraham.

About the Film ‘Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth’:
Jointly produced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and DGIPR, Government of Maharashtra, this film portrays the remarkable journey of Dr. Ambedkar — India’s first Law Minister and the principal architect of the Constitution. The film highlights his relentless efforts for social justice, his advocacy for the underprivileged, and his message of “Educate, Organize, and Agitate.”

Directed by Dr. Jabbar Patel, the film stars Mammootty as Dr. Ambedkar and Sonali Kulkarni as Ramabai Ambedkar, with performances by Mohan Gokhale and Mrinal Kulkarni. The script was penned by Sooni Taraporevala, Arun Sadhu, and Daya Pawar, with Dr. Y.D. Phadke handling the research. Advisors include Shyam Benegal, with costumes by Bhanu Athaiya, music by Amar Haldipur, and cinematography by Ashok Mehta.
