Chaphekar Brothers Memorial Will Inspire Patriotism Among Youth: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Inauguration of Chaphekar Memorial at Chinchwad by Chief Minister
Pune : “The sacrifices of martyrs serve as a constant source of inspiration for patriotism. The Chaphekar brothers were among such martyrs whose contribution to India’s freedom struggle is invaluable. Through this memorial, their legacy will be brought to the public eye and will truly serve as a center for instilling patriotic values in the youth,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while inaugurating the Chaphekar Brothers Memorial in Chinchwad.
The memorial, constructed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the Chaphekar Memorial Committee, was inaugurated by CM Fadnavis, who also laid the foundation stone for the proposed National Museum.
The event was held at Professor Ramkrishna More Auditorium in Chinchwad and was presided over by Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar. Also present were Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister for Protocol and Marketing Jaykumar Rawal, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Anna Bansode, MP Shrirang Barne, MLAs Uma Khapare, Amit Gorkhe, Mahesh Landge, Shankar Jagtap, Prashant Bamb, former MPs Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Amar Sable, and Chaphekar Memorial Committee President Padma Shri Girish Prabhune, among others. Descendants of the Chaphekar family, as well as of other freedom fighters like Hambirrao Mohite, Raje Umaji Naik, and Shaheed Rajguru, were also in attendance and were honored by the CM.
CM Fadnavis highlighted that the Chaphekar Wada memorial is built using state-of-the-art technology and includes 14 audio-visual exhibits depicting significant events from the lives of the Chaphekar brothers. He also elaborated on the assassination of British officer Rand by the Chaphekar brothers.
He emphasized that the Chaphekar brothers drew their inspiration from the ideas of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He stated that the memorial will soon be recognized as a national monument, providing an immersive experience of India’s glorious history through visual storytelling.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar praised the exceptional construction of the memorial and stated that the reconstruction of the Wada has rekindled a spirit of patriotism. He called the moment of the inauguration a proud and historic occasion for the entire country, reminding people of the resistance against British oppression. He emphasized the importance of preserving constitutional values such as justice, equality, fraternity, and liberty, and passing them on to future generations. Maharashtra, he said, has always led the freedom struggle, and the sacrifices of revolutionaries like the Chaphekars, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev must never be forgotten.
An Emotional Link to Glorious History
During the inauguration, a video message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi was played, wherein he praised the sacrifices of the Chaphekar brothers and the significance of the memorial. “The story of the Chaphekar brothers is one of the most inspirational and luminous chapters in our freedom struggle. Their deep patriotism, immense courage, and supreme sacrifice enriched the meaning of nationalism,” said the PM. He added that the national museum dedicated to them is not just a monument but an emotional link to India’s glorious history, evoking pride in our cultural and historical legacy while constantly reminding us of our collective mission of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh gave an overview of the project in his introductory remarks. The program was compered by Neerja Joshi, and Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil delivered the vote of thanks.
CM Fadnavis Visits Chaphekar Wada Memorial
Before the official ceremony, CM Devendra Fadnavis visited the Chaphekar Wada memorial in Chinchwad. Padma Shri Girish Prabhune briefed him on the project. The CM also launched the construction of the Chaphekar National Museum. Later, he visited the Samarasata Gurukulam institute, interacted with students, and learned about the various ongoing programs and activities.
