DRDO Develops Humanoid Robot to Assist Indian Army in High-Risk Missions

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has made significant progress in developing a humanoid robot aimed at supporting Indian Army personnel in complex and high-risk military operations, especially in border areas. This cutting-edge project is part of India’s broader effort to enhance defence capabilities and reduce human casualties in combat zones.

According to DRDO officials, the robot is being designed to walk like a human soldier, receive commands from an operator, and carry out assigned tasks with precision. The primary goal of the project is to deploy these robots in dangerous environments, allowing them to take on roles typically performed by soldiers on the frontline.

A senior DRDO official explained, “The idea is to minimize the exposure of human soldiers in risky missions. These humanoid robots will be capable of facing enemy fire, conducting surveillance, and carrying out operations in place of troops.”

One of the lead engineers involved in the project added that special focus is being placed on the robot’s mobility and adaptability to rough terrain. “We are developing the legs to mimic human walking, enabling the robot to move efficiently through forests, mountains, and rocky areas.”

The robot has already passed several important internal tests. While it is still under development, DRDO teams are currently working on enhancing the robot’s responsiveness to operator commands and its capacity to carry out more complex tasks.

The project is expected to be completed by 2027. Once deployed, these humanoid robots will be handed over to the Indian Army to strengthen its operational capabilities. Defence analysts believe this technology will offer a major advantage in modern warfare and add a futuristic element to India’s strategic defence planning.
