UP emerging as a major hub for semiconductor technology; new manufacturing unit to be set up in Jewar soon

Double engine govt’s proactive efforts reshaping Uttar Pradesh into a stronghold of cutting-edge technology in the country

Following the establishment of a 3-nanometer chip design unit in Noida, a semiconductor manufacturing facility is now set to come up in Greater Noida

Union Cabinet approves sixth semiconductor unit under India Semiconductor Mission

Two leading technology firms will jointly set up the plant near Jewar Airport in Greater Noida, with an investment of ₹3,700 crore

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expresses gratitude, stating, “Thank you, Hon’ble Prime Minister, for this historic step towards building a self-reliant India.

Lucknow : The double-engine government, committed to transforming Uttar Pradesh into an ‘Unnat Pradesh’, has marked a major milestone in making the state a $1 trillion economy. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, establishing a semiconductor manufacturing unit in Greater Noida received official approval. This project has been approved by the double engine government as the sixth unit under the Semiconductor Mission in the country. Under the project, the unit will be set up near Jewar Airport in Greater Noida with an investment of Rs 3700 crore by Vama Sundari Investment, a joint venture of two giant technology companies HCL and Foxconn.

This initiative is a significant step towards positioning Uttar Pradesh as a ‘super hub’ in the global semiconductor sector. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the Cabinet’s decision a historic stride toward realizing the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

Posting on social media platform X, he thanked the Prime Minister and hailed the move as a defining moment in India’s journey toward semiconductor self-reliance.

The new unit will be set up within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region, adjacent to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. The plant will manufacture advanced display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, personal computers, and other electronics. With a monthly production capacity of 20,000 wafers and 36 million units annually, the facility is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand across multiple industries.

India’s semiconductor industry is witnessing rapid development, and Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a key player in this transformation.

The Uttar Pradesh government had earlier introduced the Uttar Pradesh Semiconductor Policy-2024, which aimed at creating a conducive ecosystem for the semiconductor and chip design industries. The policy offers a range of incentives, including capital assistance, interest subsidies, land cost concessions, stamp duty waivers, and exemptions in electricity duty, making the state a highly attractive destination for global investors.

Thanks to these visionary policies, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a national leader and gaining recognition on the global stage in chip design and manufacturing. The newly approved unit will strengthen this momentum, especially as demand surges for electronic components in mobile phones, laptops, servers, medical devices, defence equipment, and consumer electronics.

It’s worth noting that just a day earlier, Japan’s leading semiconductor firm, Renesas Electronics Corporation, launched its advanced chip design center in Noida. The facility will focus on designing the world’s most sophisticated 3-nanometer chips—a technology currently pursued by only a handful of companies and nations.
