127th Flower Show Inaugurated at the Government Botanical Garden – Refurbished Fern House Opened at a Cost of ₹24.60 Lakhs

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M. K. Stalin, inaugurated the 127th Flower Show at the Government Botanical Garden, Udhagamandalam, and opened the newly renovated Fern House built at a cost of ₹24.60 lakhs.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister, who was on a tour of the Nilgiris District, participated in an event at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp on 13.05.2025, where he inaugurated 44 government residences built at a cost of ₹5.06 crores for mahouts at Mavuvattam village, and launched aerial bunched cables laid from Sorapalli Moolai to Theppakadu over 15 km in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve at a cost of ₹5 crores. He also inaugurated the installation of 32 transformers set up for the benefit of tribal areas at a cost of ₹2.93 crores.

Later, he interacted with mahouts and forest guards at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp, took a group photo with them, and presented them with gifts.

On 14.05.2025, the Hon’ble Chief Minister visited the Nilgiris Government Medical College Hospital, inspected the facilities, interacted with the patients about their health conditions and medical care, and then met with the medical college students, urging them to undertake medical service with dedication for home and country. He also enquired about their opinions and feedback.

Continuing the tour, on 15.05.2025, the Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated the 127th Flower Show at the Government Botanical Garden, Udhagamandalam. A large number of people, including men, women, and children, warmly welcomed him with enthusiasm.

At the same event, the Hon’ble Chief Minister opened the newly renovated Fern House, which was restored at a cost of ₹24.60 lakhs.

Every year, numerous exhibitions are held around the picturesque locations of the Nilgiris, especially at the Government Botanical Garden to attract the growing number of tourists visiting the scenic locations like Ooty Lake. This year’s 127th Flower Show will take place from 15.05.2025 to 25.05.2025.

In this year’s flower show, approximately 40,000 flower pots have been arranged, and the main floral model displays include:

  • A grand royal palace entrance modeled with 1,30,000 flowers, themed around showcasing the cultural legacy of Tamil kings.
  • A royal castle measuring 75 feet in length and 25 feet in height created using 2,00,000 flowers including varieties like carnation, dahlia, and marigold.
  • A 35-foot long and 8-foot tall Shakuntala parrot design made with 50,400 marigolds.
  • Floral peacock decorations using 4,000 flower pots and 35,000 marigolds and dahlias.

Other creative floral structures on display throughout the garden include:

  • Royal throne-shaped floral arrangements
  • Swings
  • Mirrors
  • Musical instruments
  • Cannons
  • Elephants
  • Tigers
  • Horses

The garden is embellished with intricate and eye-catching floral art.

In addition, from 15.05.2025 to 25.05.2025, cultural programs are scheduled at the Ooty Lake open stage on all days.

At the Botanical Garden, the Hon’ble Chief Minister viewed all major floral installations such as:

  • Grand floral arch
  • Royal palace decorations
  • Throne flower arrangements
  • Flower show exhibition areas
  • Shakuntala parrot flower displays
  • Glasshouse
  • Wedding stage flower setups

He also inaugurated the newly renovated Fern House, restored at a cost of ₹24.60 lakhs.

Following that, he visited several exhibition stalls set up by various departments including:

  • Horticulture
  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Textiles
  • Tribal Welfare
  • Women’s Self-Help Groups
  • Nilgiris Hill People’s Welfare Association
  • Tamil Nadu Rural and Urban Livelihood Missions

The Hon’ble Chief Minister also watched various cultural performances such as:

  • Tribal dances
  • Bharatanatyam
  • Performances by differently-abled artists
