Chief Minister Convenes Online Meeting Of High-Level Task Force On North East Economic Corridor

Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma today chaired an online meeting of the High-Level Task Force on the North East Economic Corridor, an initiative established by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to accelerate economic growth across India’s North Eastern states.

As the Convener of the Task Force, Chief Minister Lalduhoma welcomed all participants and extended his appreciation for their commitment to regional development. In his opening remarks, he identified key challenges and strategic priorities, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive infrastructure development in the North East. He pointed out that Mizoram’s road density is considerably lower than the national average and that various other critical sectors of infrastructure also demand immediate attention.

He highlighted that enhanced infrastructure would not only boost intra-regional connectivity but also facilitate cross-border trade with neighboring Southeast Asian nations, thereby creating significant employment and economic opportunities for the region.

The Chief Minister also expressed his sincere gratitude to Union DoNER Minister Pu Jyotiraditya Scindia for his leadership and consistent support in driving the developmental agenda for the North East.

Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary of the Planning & Programme Implementation Department, Government of Mizoram, presented a summary report based on inputs received from member states during the first round of consultations. This presentation was followed by a detailed discussion on the recommendations and strategic directions.

The meeting saw participation from key stakeholders, including:

  • Pu Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of DoNER
  • Pu Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya
  • Pu Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister from Assam
  • Pu PK Singh, Chief Secretary of Manipur
  • Shri V. Umashankar, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH)
  • Senior officials from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and other concerned ministries

Participants exchanged perspectives, shared proposals, and reiterated their commitment to conducting further consultations aimed at developing a collaborative and well-coordinated strategy for the corridor’s implementation.

The High-Level Task Force, established by the Ministry of DoNER, is mandated to identify key interventions and develop short-term, medium-term, and long-term action plans for the integrated development of the North East Economic Corridor, a vital infrastructure project envisioned to unlock the region’s growth potential.
