PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme: Realizing Dreams with Solar Power
Electricity Bill Halved, State Government Offers ₹30,000 Additional Subsidy
Raipur : Just like the rest of the country, the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (Prime Minister’s Free Electricity Scheme) is proving to be highly beneficial for the residents of Bilaspur district. Not only is it promoting environmental sustainability, but it is also providing significant relief from rising electricity costs.
Mrs. Anjali Singh, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Bilaspur, has installed a 3-kilowatt solar plant on her rooftop. She shared that the total cost of the plant was ₹1.85 lakh, out of which she received a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the central government.
Before installing the solar plant, Mrs. Singh’s monthly electricity bill used to be between ₹2,500 to ₹3,000. Now, her bill has been reduced by half, providing her with much-needed financial relief. She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary approach for encouraging the use of renewable energy and promoting conservation of natural resources.
The state government, in collaboration with the central government, is also playing a proactive role in supporting this initiative. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state cabinet has approved an additional subsidy of up to ₹30,000 for consumers to encourage the adoption of solar energy and to ease their electricity expenses.
Mrs. Anjali Singh noted that earlier she used to face frequent power outages and had to file complaints repeatedly. With the solar setup, these issues have been resolved. She added that the installation was completed within ten days of applying. Grateful to the government, she said that maintaining a solar system is easy and incurs no additional expenses. She recommended that everyone should consider joining the scheme, as it is highly useful and cost-effective.
Subsidy Benefits and Easy Online Registration
Under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, rooftop solar installations are connected to the electricity grid through net metering. Consumers can supply excess electricity generated back to the grid, resulting in zero electricity bills and even earning additional income.
The scheme offers substantial subsidies:
- For a 1 kW system: ₹30,000 from the central government + ₹15,000 from the state government = ₹45,000 total subsidy
- For a 2 kW system: ₹60,000 (central) + ₹30,000 (state) = ₹90,000 total
- For a 3 kW system: ₹78,000 (central) + ₹30,000 (state) = ₹1.08 lakh total subsidy
