Anti-Drug Curriculum in Punjab Will Lead the Nation in Combating Substance Abuse: Kejriwal

  • From today, anti-drug curriculum will be taught to students of Classes 9 to 12 in Punjab schools: Kejriwal
  • “War Against Drugs” is no longer a mere slogan, but a mass movement—we must unite to make Punjab drug-free: Kejriwal
  • Children will be sensitized against drugs from an early age, so future generations are recognized for their knowledge and hard work, not addiction: Kejriwal
  • “Programs like War Against Drugs are essential to save future generations by creating awareness among children,” said Bhagwant Mann

New Delhi/Punjab, August 25 : In a landmark initiative, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, launched an anti-drug curriculum across 3,500 government schools in Punjab. The program aims to educate children against substance abuse from an early age, ensuring future generations are recognized for their intellect and dedication rather than falling into addiction.

The launch event, held at the School of Eminence in Fazilka, included an oath-taking ceremony where students, teachers, and officials pledged to fight against drugs. Kejriwal asserted that this curriculum will not only benefit Punjab but will serve as a model for the entire country on how to prepare children against the menace of drugs.

He criticized previous governments, accusing them of negligence and complicity in drug trafficking. “From 2007-08, drugs started infiltrating Punjab, while certain ministers themselves were involved in its distribution. They protected international drug smugglers and facilitated drug trafficking from their own residences. No government dared to take action against this,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal highlighted that when traditional parties like Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal failed to act, the people of Punjab gave AAP a chance in 2022. He emphasized that AAP’s anti-drug campaign has been the most aggressive in the country, resulting in over 23,000 FIRs and 15,000 arrests within five months. “These drug lords built palatial houses, but now bulldozers are demolishing their illegal properties. For the first time, a government is unafraid to take on drug mafia,” he asserted.

He also mentioned that when a major political figure was arrested for drug trafficking, opposition parties rallied in his defense. “Where were their tears when Punjab’s youth were being destroyed by drugs?” he questioned.

Kejriwal underlined that the anti-drug movement is receiving massive public support. “Villages are pledging not to allow drug sales in their vicinity. De-addiction centers are being modernized, and youth volunteers are appointed in every village to rescue and rehabilitate addicts.”

CM Mann added that the Punjab government is building playgrounds and gyms in every village to keep the youth engaged in constructive activities. He stressed that prior governments tarnished Punjab’s image for their selfish interests, but the AAP government is committed to erasing that stain.

Bhagwant Mann revealed that a WhatsApp helpline (97791-00200) has been launched for citizens to report drug trafficking, with assurance of complete confidentiality. Rehabilitation efforts are also underway to ensure addicts can reintegrate into society with dignity.
