Lucknow, Aug 2025 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has entered a new era in education. From primary to higher education, medical training to vocational skills, the state government has implemented historic reforms in the education system through planned policy measures, technological innovation, and public–private partnerships. Initiatives like Operation Kayakalp and Project Alankar have equipped government schools with modern facilities, while old higher education institutions are being upgraded alongside the creation of new ones. The awarding of NAAC A++ to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) stands as a prime example, giving higher education in the state national-level recognition.
From expanding medical and hi-tech education to providing free coaching for competitive exams and vocational training, the aim is to ensure every student in the state receives quality education, employment-oriented skills, and opportunities matching global standards.
Boost to Higher Education Through Private Participation
KGMU secured a CGPA of 3.67 in the latest NAAC assessment (July 31–August 2), reflecting improvements in transparency, technical advancement, and resources in medical education. The government targets NAAC evaluation for 25% of the state’s colleges by 2025–26, with around 1,000 already shortlisted. Several private universities have been approved, including Uttar Pradesh’s first AI-augmented university (Chandigarh University) in Unnao. Recently, the Yogi Cabinet approved the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee–Chevening UP Government Scholarship Scheme, giving meritorious students the opportunity to pursue higher education in the UK.
Expansion in Medical & Hi-tech Education
The state now operates 80 medical colleges and has established a new AYUSH University in Gorakhpur. Knowledge Cities are planned in districts including Kanpur and Gorakhpur to foster a knowledge-based economy and set global benchmarks in education and research.
CM Abhyudaya Yojana Empowering Youth for Competitive Exams
This free coaching scheme has benefited thousands of students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to crack exams like UPSC, PCS, JEE, and NEET. Operating in all 75 districts with 166 centers, it provides high-quality education, study resources, and mentorship.
Special Focus on Vocational Education
Over 2 crore youth are being digitally empowered through smartphones and tablets (50 lakh already benefited). In collaboration with Tata Technologies, 150 government ITIs are being upgraded with new-age technology. Plans are also in place to modernize over 120 polytechnic colleges. Currently, 400 government and 3,000 private ITIs operate in the state, with minimal fees, scholarships, and incentives.
Major Improvements in Primary & Secondary Schools
Since 2017, Operation Kayakalp has raised the availability of basic facilities in schools from 36% to 96%, built libraries in 1.32 lakh schools, and distributed 15.37 crore free textbooks. Under Project Alankar, 2,441 secondary schools were upgraded with 35 infrastructure standards, including smart classes and labs, boosting secondary school enrollment by 23%. English-medium education has been introduced in select schools for underprivileged children, with NCERT syllabus adoption ensuring uniform and high-quality education statewide.
