New Delhi, Aug 2025 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of betraying the nation through a multi-crore scam in the purchase of the national flag in Delhi. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged that after the Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta committed fraud in procuring tricolour flags, the BJP’s “fake nationalism” has been fully exposed.

According to Singh, under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, the BJP government had to distribute 7 lakh tricolour flags worth ₹4 crore, but instead distributed flags smaller than the official size. Moreover, the flags were meant to be delivered to every home before Independence Day, but the tender was opened only on August 16—a day after the national celebration. Even before the tender opened, the supplier delivered flags costing ₹15 instead of the contracted ₹60 per flag.

Sanjay Singh charged that by committing corruption in the purchase of the national flag, the BJP has insulted the memory of millions of martyrs who laid down their lives for the country. He demanded a thorough investigation and strict action, including arrests and imprisonment of those found responsible.

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also launched an attack, saying: “Politics over the flag, trade over the flag, and now a scam over the flag. Such fraudsters deserve to be tried for treason.”

At a press conference held at AAP headquarters on Tuesday, Sanjay Singh said:

“The BJP, which claims to be the world’s largest party, beats the drum of nationalism every day, and humiliates opposition leaders in the name of patriotism, has now been caught in such a scam that the whole country will be shocked. How can a party like BJP indulge in corruption even in the purchase of the national tricolour?”

Singh presented documentary evidence showing that the prescribed size of the flag was 900 mm × 1350 mm with a 6-foot pole, but what was actually distributed measured only 711 mm × 508 mm with a 4-foot pole. “The so-called patriots of BJP reduced the size of the flag and even cheated in the pole meant to hold it,” Singh alleged.

He further claimed that three companies—Anirat Contracts Pvt. Ltd., Spesh for Business Solution Pvt. Ltd., and Vinayak Product Company—participated in the tender, but the order was directly handed to Anirat Contracts Pvt. Ltd. in exchange for commissions, even before the tender was officially opened.

“On August 15, when the entire nation celebrated Independence Day, BJP’s corruption was an open insult. When BJP leaders raised those flags, the souls of martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Ashfaqullah Khan, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, and countless other revolutionaries must have wept. They sacrificed their lives for the honour of this tricolour, and today BJP is looting even in its name,” Singh said.

He also directly questioned the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta:

“Is there no shame left in you? You already indulge in scams in everything else, but at least you could have spared India’s tricolour, the pride of our nation. At least you could have honoured our martyrs on Independence Day with dignity. Instead, you have brought shame by committing corruption in the purchase of the national flag.”

Calling it one of the most shameful scandals ever, Singh demanded a detailed probe and the immediate arrest of those responsible.
