CM Pema Khandu: Dibang Project to Transform Arunachal Beyond Power Generation

Itanagar, Sept 2025: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday said the Dibang Multipurpose Project (DMP) in Lower Dibang Valley will serve as a catalyst for the state’s overall development, extending far beyond electricity generation.

During his visit to the project site at Munli, Khandu posted on X that Arunachal Pradesh is projected to earn nearly ₹700 crore annually in free power from the 2,880 MW project. “More than the megawatts, the project is about jobs for our youth, funds for local development, and new opportunities in tourism and business. It’s about ensuring that the people of Dibang and across Arunachal experience the benefits of growth in their daily lives,” he wrote.

Accompanied by NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Singh, Khandu inspected the preparatory works and held discussions with engineers and workers. He expressed confidence that the project, being implemented by NHPC on the Dibang River, will be completed by 2032.

“This project is not just about infrastructure—it’s about people. Meeting the men and women building this future was inspiring, and their commitment strengthens my belief that the Dibang project will mark a turning point for Arunachal,” he said.

Khandu was joined by BJP state president Kaling Moyong, Minister Dasanglu Pul, and MLAs Mutchu Mithi, Puinnyo Apum, and Oni Panyang during the site visit.

Envisaged as India’s largest hydropower project, the Dibang Multipurpose Project is expected to bring long-term economic stability and create opportunities for sustainable growth in the region.
