AAP Govt Sets Record: ₹20,000 Per Acre Flood Relief to Punjab Farmers Within 30 Days
Chandigarh, Oct 2025 : When devastating floods struck Punjab, destroying thousands of acres of land and crops, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was the first to stand firmly with the farmers and the common people. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not only ordered an immediate girdawari (damage assessment) but also ensured that compensation was paid ahead of schedule — proving that this government believes in action, not just words.

The special girdawari was announced on September 11 with a target of completion in 45 days, but the government began distributing compensation as early as the 30th day. In 2,508 villages across Punjab, crops were damaged and about 3.5 lakh acres of cultivable land were destroyed. Despite the scale of loss, the state government swiftly began compensating farmers with ₹20,000 per acre — marking the fastest and largest relief operation in Punjab’s history.
Even though the Centre did not respond to Punjab’s appeal for assistance, the state government provided an additional ₹13,200 compensation from its own resources. This reaffirmed that Punjab’s farmers will never be left to depend on others. The compensation amount was directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and eliminate middlemen or delays.

The survey for damaged houses was also completed swiftly — covering 30,806 homes. The compensation for partially damaged houses was raised from ₹6,500 to ₹40,000, and families who lost loved ones in the floods received ₹4 lakh each. Compensation was also announced for livestock and poultry losses, ensuring that no affected family was left unsupported.
For the first time, all assessment and compensation processes were conducted through a transparent online portal. In the Ajnala region alone, ₹5 crore was directly disbursed to farmers and affected families across 52 villages. Teams have been deployed at the grassroots to ensure relief reaches every household.
Under the “Jisda Khet, Usdi Rait” (Owner’s Land, Owner’s Soil) policy, efforts are underway to restore flood-affected farmland for cultivation. As part of Mission Chardikala, the Punjab government has pledged to rebuild all flood-hit villages. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reiterated that Punjab’s farmers will never be left alone — the government will stand by them at every step.
While the opposition engaged in politics over the floods, the AAP government focused on relief and rehabilitation. By compensating farmers before Diwali, the government restored their faith and demonstrated that when it comes to Punjab and its people, it delivers on its promises — with action, not words. This spirit of unity and resilience is what keeps Punjab strong and moving forward together.
