Nov 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met members of the Indian community in South Africa during his visit to Johannesburg, engaging in a warm and interactive discussion on cultural, social, and developmental issues. The gathering brought together individuals who are actively contributing to community service, cultural promotion, and social initiatives through various organizations. PM Modi listened to their experiences, appreciated their efforts, and highlighted India’s rapid progress, global achievements, and expanding international presence.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi praised the enthusiasm with which the Indian diaspora is strengthening people-to-people ties between India and South Africa. He called their efforts commendable and encouraged them to continue nurturing these bonds. He emphasized that as India rises on the global stage, the role of the Indian community abroad becomes even more important in showcasing the country’s strengths and values.

A major highlight of the meeting was PM Modi’s call to promote Indian culture more widely. He stressed the global relevance of India’s traditional knowledge systems—such as yoga, Ayurveda, and classical wellness practices—and urged the community to help spread these traditions internationally. The Prime Minister encouraged them to connect more South Africans with India’s rich cultural heritage as well as its journey of modern development.

PM Modi also urged community members to actively participate in and popularize the “Know India” quiz, describing it as a unique platform to raise awareness about India’s history, culture, and contemporary achievements. He said such initiatives help younger generations stay rooted in their heritage while understanding the country’s transformative progress.

During the interaction, members discussed their contributions in social, cultural, and educational fields. They shared the achievements of the community, ongoing challenges, and their aspirations for deeper engagement with India. The Prime Minister appreciated these efforts and encouraged them to continue sharing their experiences, fostering pride in India among youth, and promoting cultural understanding between the two nations.

The meeting concluded with PM Modi reaffirming the diaspora’s vital role as cultural ambassadors. His interaction served as a source of inspiration and guidance, reinforcing the message of unity, cultural pride, and continued contribution to India’s global image.
