Shreyasi Singh Takes Charge of IT and Sports Ministries in Bihar, Vows Dedicated and Bold Governance

Patna, Nov 2025 : With the recent allocation of portfolios in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s newly formed government in Bihar, ministers have begun assuming charge of their respective departments. Among them is first-time minister and celebrated sportsperson Shreyasi Singh, who formally took charge of her two significant portfolios—Information Technology and Sports.

While assuming office, Shreyasi expressed gratitude to the BJP and NDA leadership for the confidence placed in her. She described her new responsibilities as both an honour and a challenge. “This is a favourite department of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. We assure that we will work with full dedication. Every responsibility is a challenge, but we are not afraid of challenges—we know how to face them boldly,” she said.

Drawing on her extensive sports background, Shreyasi said she has a deep understanding of the issues faced by athletes. She announced plans to prepare a comprehensive blueprint aimed at improving the sports infrastructure and addressing concerns within the department. “In the coming days, better arrangements will be ensured for sportspersons in the state,” she added.

Shreyasi Singh’s entry into politics marks a notable rise for a young leader with strong roots in both sports and public life. Hailing from Gidhaur in Jamui district, she belongs to a prominent family—her father, Digvijay Singh, was a former Union Minister, her mother Putul Kumari served as a Member of Parliament, and her grandfather Kumar Surendra Singh headed the National Rifle Association of India.

Her sports career is equally distinguished. A renowned shooter in the double trap event, Shreyasi has earned numerous accolades, including a gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, a silver at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, a bronze at the 2014 Asian Games, the prestigious Arjuna Award, and participation as Bihar’s first shooter in the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also recently secured a gold medal at the 61st National Shooting Championship.

Shreyasi entered active politics in 2020 by joining the BJP, beginning a new chapter in her journey from international sports arenas to public service. With her assuming charge of two crucial departments, expectations are high for effective governance and meaningful reforms in Bihar’s IT and sports sectors.
