PM Modi Concludes G20 Summit Engagements in Johannesburg, Highlights India’s Vision for a Tech-Driven, Inclusive Future
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wrapped up his engagements at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg and departed for New Delhi after a series of high-level discussions with global leaders. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed his departure, stating on X: “After successfully concluding his engagements at the G20 Summit and meetings with world leaders, PM Narendra Modi departs from Johannesburg, South Africa.”

PM Modi arrived in Johannesburg on Friday for the two-day summit and held extensive bilateral meetings with several key leaders. Among those he met were French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These interactions focused on strengthening partnerships in areas such as global trade, financial stability, innovation, climate action, and multilateral cooperation.
During his address at the third session of the summit on Sunday, PM Modi called for shaping a “fair, just and inclusive future,” one driven by human-centric technology. He stressed that emerging technologies must be open-source, globally accessible, and guided by ethical foundations rather than being restricted by finance-centric models.
Highlighting India’s own experience in digital transformation, the Prime Minister noted the country’s successful expansion of digital payments, space technology participation, and rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). He reiterated India’s commitment to global technological collaboration, announcing that India will host the AI Impact Summit in February 2026. “We have chosen the theme Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya — welfare for all, happiness for all,” he said.
PM Modi also underlined the need for a shift in global workforce priorities in the age of AI. “In this era, we must move from thinking about ‘jobs for today’ to building ‘capabilities for tomorrow’,” he said, urging the G20 to work toward establishing a global framework for talent mobility. Such a framework, he said, would boost innovation and create opportunities for the world’s youth.
The 2025 G20 Summit marked a historic milestone as world leaders, gathered for the first G20 meeting on African soil, reached broad consensus on pressing global issues including disaster resilience, debt sustainability, just energy transitions, and critical mineral supply chains. The G20 South Africa Summit Leaders’ Declaration was adopted on Saturday during the opening session.
With his departure, PM Modi concluded a productive visit that further strengthened India’s global role and outlined a forward-looking technological and developmental vision for the decades ahead.
