“Beating Retreat” Ceremony at Gateway of India Marks Navy Day in Presence of Governor

Mumbai, Dec 2025: On the occasion of Indian Navy Day, a grand “Beating Retreat” and “Tattoo Ceremony” organized by the Western Naval Command was held at the Gateway of India, attended by Governor Acharya Devvrat as the chief guest. The event showcased an impressive blend of India’s maritime strength, discipline, culture, and tradition, highlighting the Navy’s valorous legacy and instilling national pride.

The audience applauded the spectacular fly-past by naval helicopters, a captivating performance by the Naval Central Band, synchronized drill routines executed without verbal commands, and the Hornpipe Sailors Dance performed by young girls of the Sea Cadet Corps. On this occasion, ships at sea were also beautifully illuminated in honor of Navy Day.

Navy Day is celebrated annually on December 4 to commemorate the decisive naval attack on Karachi harbor during the 1971 India–Pakistan war and to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Indian Navy.

The ceremony was attended by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, senior naval officers, former officers, and distinguished guests from various fields. The naval personnel displayed unique and skilled traditions. A major highlight was the fly-past and operational demonstration by INS Shikra helicopters, which showcased the Indian Navy’s power and cutting-edge technical capabilities. The event not only preserved historical naval traditions but also inspired the new generation with national pride, discipline, and tales of naval bravery.
