Shiv Sena Stuns BJP as 22-Year-Old Siddhi Vastre Wins Mohol Municipal Presidency
Mumbai, Dec 2025 : In a dramatic shift in Solapur district’s political equation, the Mohol Municipal Council elections have delivered a landmark result, with the Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a region long considered a saffron stronghold. The contest, closely watched across the state, concluded with Shiv Sena candidate Siddhi Vastre defeating BJP’s Sheetal Kshirsagar to claim the municipal president’s post — a symbolic and strategic victory for the party.
The outcome is particularly significant as 22-year-old Siddhi Vastre has now become Maharashtra’s youngest municipal president. Her victory has drawn statewide attention, not only for her age but also for the political message it sends. Mohol has traditionally been a BJP bastion, guided strongly by former MLA Rajan Patil’s local influence. This result, therefore, marks a major setback for the BJP’s leadership in the region.
According to the official results, Vastre secured the win by a margin of 170 votes, prompting ripples of concern within BJP circles in Solapur district. For Shiv Sena, however, the victory has sparked renewed confidence as the party prepares for upcoming electoral battles. The party’s performance in the municipal council underscores this momentum — in the 20-member body, Shiv Sena emerged as the largest political force by winning nine seats, establishing firm control over the local civic administration.
Siddhi Vastre’s win also carries a deep personal and emotional resonance. Raised in a middle-class family in Mohol, she comes from a lineage marked by strong grassroots engagement. Her grandfather, the late Vishwanath Shivraj Vastre, was a respected figure in the community. As reported by ESakal, he served as the sarpanch of Mohol Gram Panchayat nearly 30 years ago and was associated with the Congress party, winning multiple Gram Panchayat elections. Siddhi’s father, Raju Vastre, once employed in a cooperative credit institution, now works as a farmer, while her mother, Tejashree, is a homemaker.
What makes Siddhi’s triumph even more striking is the fact that she had no initial intention of entering politics. According to party sources, it was only after the seat was reserved for the post of municipal president that discussions began among her family and Shiv Sena leaders. Eventually, under the guidance of former municipal president Ramesh Barskar and senior leader Padmakar Deshmukh, Siddhi’s name was finalized, and a well-planned grassroots campaign was launched. The strategy proved effective, resonating strongly with local voters.
After her victory, Siddhi, moved by emotion, told reporters that the result reflected the trust people had placed in her. She said the mandate had silenced doubts raised about her age during the campaign.
Looking ahead, Siddhi outlined her priorities, promising to focus on improving core civic amenities, including roads, water supply, electricity, and healthcare facilities. She emphasized her commitment to collaborative development, assuring residents that she would work to uplift Mohol and meet public expectations.
Siddhi Vastre’s victory not only reshapes the political terrain of Mohol but also marks the rise of a young leader whose success signals a generational shift in Maharashtra’s local governance.
