Jharkhand Launches Free Residential Coaching for Tribal Medical & Engineering Aspirants
Ranchi, Dec 2025 : The Jharkhand government has launched a major education initiative aimed at empowering Scheduled Tribe (ST) students preparing for medical and engineering entrance exams. On Monday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the Dishom Guru Shibu Soren Engineering and Medical Coaching Institute in Hindpiri, Ranchi — a fully residential and free coaching facility to support tribal students aspiring to join professional institutes. The programme will be operated in collaboration with a reputed coaching institution from Kota, Rajasthan, well known for its competitive exam training excellence.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Soren described the initiative as a transformative step for the future of tribal youth in the state. He urged students selected for the first batch to maintain discipline, work hard, and continue striving toward their goals. He further reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to bridging educational gaps and elevating the social and academic status of Scheduled Tribe communities across Jharkhand.

CM Soren also directed departmental officials to create adequate sports and recreational facilities at the coaching centre, ensuring that students not only excel academically but also benefit from holistic development. In its first phase, the institute has admitted 300 meritorious tribal students. The institute will operate under the supervision of the Welfare Department.
Students enrolled in the programme will receive comprehensive coaching from expert faculty, high-quality study materials, e-learning tablets, access to a well-equipped library, and advanced digital learning facilities. The coaching programme is fully residential, with separate hostel arrangements for male and female students. All services — including boarding, lodging, study infrastructure, and training — will be provided free of cost.
Officials explained that the coaching centre has been launched under the Jharkhand Scheduled Tribe Educational Upliftment Program, which aims to support academically strong ST students who face financial obstacles in pursuing medical and engineering education. Only permanent ST residents of Jharkhand who meet eligibility criteria and whose parents are not employed in regular government service will qualify for the programme.
The launch ceremony was attended by Welfare Minister Chamra Linda, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.
The Welfare Department already provides support to ST candidates who clear the UPSC Civil Services Mains and interview stages and offers coaching for state-level examinations such as JPSC and JSSC. Building on this momentum, the state government is also planning to introduce a similar free coaching scheme for Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and minority students preparing for professional courses in medicine and engineering. The new programme is expected to begin in the next academic session, with financial allocations likely to be included in the upcoming state budget.
The initiative marks a major push toward inclusive and equitable education and is expected to significantly boost opportunities for tribal students, helping them compete on national platforms and build future careers in science, healthcare, and engineering.
