Stop playing with the lives of small children, make arrangements to protect them from cold in schools immediately: Anurag Dhanda

Chandigarh, December 2025 : Aam Aadmi Party’s National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the BJP government over the serious and alarming condition of government schools in Haryana. He said that severe cold is prevailing across Haryana, with temperatures dropping to 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, but despite this, thousands of small children are still being forced to study in government schools while sitting on mats or directly on the floor. This is not just mismanagement, but a direct injustice to the health and future of children.

Anurag Dhanda said that the Education Department had conducted verification of the requirement of ‘dual desks’ from all government schools and had also sought demand reports by March 5, 2025. The government had claimed that children would not have to sit on the ground, but till December 2025 there has been no change in the situation. The question is, where did that entire dual desk plan go? Is the suffering of children limited only to paperwork for the BJP government?

He said that ground reports clearly show that many government schools have neither adequate classrooms, nor have broken doors and windows been repaired, nor are there any arrangements to protect children from the cold. In many schools, children are studying while sitting in corridors, and in some places, sitting on the floor in windowless rooms amid cold air has become a compulsion. Not even basic facilities like heaters, hot water or protection from cold are available.

Anurag Dhanda said that the situation is so bad that in many places there are only 3–4 rooms for 600 children. In some schools, more than 350 children are forced to conduct prayers and classes in the open. Many government primary schools do not even have their own buildings and are being run by shifting into other schools. This situation reflects the real picture of Haryana’s education system.

Questioning the silence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, he said that the Chief Minister should explain what the government is doing when small children are studying while sitting on the floor in the cold. Is this the BJP’s so-called ‘Haryana model’ and ‘world-class education’ that is spoken about from public platforms?

Anurag Dhanda said that the situation is worse also because there is a huge shortage of teachers in the state. More than 30,000 teacher posts are lying vacant. In many districts, there is only one teacher for 400–500 students. Nearly 90 per cent of government schools do not have headmasters, due to which children are not getting proper guidance and schools are not being run properly. Instead of making permanent recruitments, the government is running temporary arrangements through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam, due to which the quality of education is continuously declining.

The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the government immediately provide dual desks in all government schools, free children from the compulsion of sitting on the floor, immediately fill vacant teacher and headmaster posts, get school buildings repaired, and ensure necessary facilities to protect children during the winter season.

Anurag Dhanda said that the Aam Aadmi Party will become the voice of children studying in government schools in Haryana and take this issue to every resident of the state. The future of children should be built not in files and announcements, but in safe, dignified and better classrooms.
