Revanth Reddy and KCR Share a Courteous Moment in Telangana Assembly

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed an unusual and symbolic moment of cordiality when Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy exchanged pleasantries with his predecessor and Leader of the Opposition, K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), setting aside, at least briefly, months of bitter political rhetoric.

Ahead of the commencement of proceedings on the first day of the winter session, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy walked up to KCR inside the Assembly hall, greeted him warmly, and shook his hand. The Chief Minister also enquired about the health and well-being of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief, marking a rare personal interaction between the two leaders.

KCR, who has largely remained away from Assembly proceedings in recent months, made a notable appearance on Monday and arrived early, taking his seat even before many other legislators entered the House. His presence itself drew attention, given the sharp exchanges that have dominated political discourse between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS.

As Revanth Reddy entered the Assembly, he immediately approached KCR, triggering a brief moment of bonhomie that stood in stark contrast to the charged political atmosphere outside the House. Following the Chief Minister’s gesture, several ministers and legislators from the ruling party also walked up to KCR to greet him.

Among those who met the former Chief Minister were ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, Vakiti Srihari, and Adluri Lakshman Kumar. Newly elected Congress MLA Naveen Yadav also met KCR and sought his blessings, adding to the sense of rare cross-party civility.

The cordial exchanges came against the backdrop of an intense war of words between Revanth Reddy and KCR in recent weeks, particularly over issues related to irrigation projects, river water sharing, and governance. The BRS has accused the Chief Minister of repeatedly using derogatory language against KCR and even wishing for his death, allegations that have deepened political animosity.

Earlier this month, while announcing plans for a mass movement over the Palamuru–Rangareddy lift irrigation project on December 21, KCR had issued a strongly worded statement, saying the BRS would “peel off the skin” of the Congress government for betraying the people. The remark drew sharp reactions from the ruling party.

Responding to KCR’s comments, Revanth Reddy had issued an aggressive warning, stating that village-level leaders of the Congress would confront KCR and that he would never allow KCR or his family to return to power. The Chief Minister also referred to past cases filed against him during the BRS regime and accused KCR of misusing power to harass political opponents.

Addressing a public meeting in Narayanpet district on December 24, Revanth Reddy said that KCR had filed cases against him, sent him to jail, and harassed him during his tenure as Chief Minister. He further remarked that KCR had “imprisoned himself” in his farmhouse, surrounded by police, following his electoral defeat.

The verbal sparring escalated further after KCR’s son and BRS Working President, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), issued a strong warning to the Chief Minister, cautioning that restraint should not be mistaken for weakness. KTR said that as a son and party worker, it was difficult to remain silent in the face of repeated personal attacks on his father.

KTR noted that while he chose restraint out of respect for democratic values and the constitutional office held by the Chief Minister, he was fully capable of responding forcefully. He stressed that the BRS leadership’s silence should not be misread as fear, but as a conscious decision to uphold political decorum.

Against this backdrop of hostility, Monday’s brief display of civility in the Assembly stood out as a reminder of parliamentary traditions and mutual respect, even amid intense political rivalry. Whether the moment signals a broader thaw in relations or remains a symbolic pause in an otherwise confrontational political climate remains to be seen.
