Kolasib, September 2026: Mizoram Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima today met Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), and discussed the improvement of the road between Vairengte and Sihmui, as well as the widening of the road from Kawnpui to Aizawl.
The Deputy Speaker urged the Governor to pursue the necessary sanction for the proposal submitted by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to use Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC/cement concrete) for repairing severely damaged stretches between Vairengte and Sihmui, particularly sections frequently damaged by water. The NHIDCL's proposal for a Change of Scope has already received in-principle approval from authorities in Delhi.
He pointed out that the PQC proposal submitted by NHIDCL to the Centre requires formal sanction before the work can actually begin. He requested the Governor to expedite the approval so that work could commence as soon as the working season begins after the monsoon. The Governor took note of the request and assured the Deputy Speaker that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities during his next visit to Delhi, expected within the coming week.
In addition, Pu Lalfamkima urged the Governor to take up with the Central authorities the proposal to widen the road from Kawnpui through Durtlang to Aizawl into a double-lane road.
The Governor also expressed the view that Aizawl should not depend on a single road for entry and exit and that there should be at least two road routes providing connectivity to the state capital. He said the proposal for converting the Kawnpui-Durtlang-Aizawl road into a double-lane road would be given due importance and assured that he would pursue the matter to the best of his ability.
Pu Lalfamkima further requested the Governor to expedite various sanctions required for the road improvement projects so that the necessary approvals could be secured at the earliest and construction work could begin with the onset of the next working season.
