Hyderabad, September 2026 : The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed senior Telangana Congress leader Madhu Goud Yaskhi as the new Chairperson of the All India Professionals’ Congress.
AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal announced the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, saying Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had appointed Yaskhi to head the party’s professionals’ wing.
The Congress also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing chairperson Praveen Chakravarty.
Yaskhi, a prominent Congress leader from Telangana, brings decades of political experience and is known for his close rapport with the party’s central leadership. A highly educated leader and prominent voice from the Backward Classes, he is also recognised for his soft-spoken and cordial demeanour.
A strong advocate of the separate Telangana movement, Yaskhi entered the Lok Sabha in 2004 after winning the Nizamabad seat. He defeated Telugu Desam Party candidate Syed Yusuf Ali by more than 1.37 lakh votes. He retained the constituency in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate Bigala Ganesh Gupta by over 60,000 votes.
During his parliamentary career, Yaskhi also served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Congress Parliamentary Party.
His electoral fortunes changed in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections when he was defeated by K. Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who contested on the TRS ticket.
Yaskhi contested the Nizamabad seat again in 2019 but finished third. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dharampuri Arvind won the election, defeating Kavitha, who finished second.
In 2023, the Congress appointed Yaskhi as Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). He also contested the Telangana Assembly elections that year from LB Nagar in Hyderabad. However, he finished third behind candidates of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and BJP.
Following the Congress victory in Telangana in the 2023 Assembly elections and the appointment of then TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy as Chief Minister, Yaskhi was considered among the leading contenders for the state Congress president’s post in 2024.
However, the party eventually appointed Mahesh Kumar Goud as the TPCC president.
With his appointment as Chairperson of the All India Professionals’ Congress, Yaskhi will now have a national organisational role, bringing his political experience and engagement with professionals into the party’s broader outreach and organisational activities.
