Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar Meets Union Labour and Sports Minister

New Delhi, September 2026: Mizoram Minister of State Lalnghinglova Hmar, who is currently in New Delhi, met Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya at the latter’s residence in New Delhi on September 8, 2026.

Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar briefed the Union Labour Minister on the steps being taken to effectively pursue various initiatives of the Central Government aimed at improving the welfare of workers in Mizoram. He also highlighted the rapid increase in registrations with the Mizoram Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and the new measures being planned for the welfare of registered workers.

The LESDE Minister also informed Dr Mandaviya about the significant increase in registrations under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in recent times and the visible progress being made.

He requested the Union Minister to consider establishing an ESIC hospital in Mizoram, despite the state’s relatively small population. “Because of our small population, Mizoram faces difficulty in meeting the prescribed criteria for setting up an ESIC hospital. Although the number of registered beneficiaries does not quite meet the required threshold, considering the progress we have made, I request you to consider establishing an ESIC hospital in Mizoram,” he said.

Union Labour Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya assured him that the request would be considered positively. He said he would seek to fulfil the request and indicated that the matter would be taken up at the next ESIC meeting for consideration of a hospital in Mizoram. He also said that the progress and initiatives relating to labour welfare in Mizoram had been noticed at the national level in Delhi.

As Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Lalnghinglova Hmar also submitted proposals to the Union Sports Minister for developing sports infrastructure in Mizoram, taking advantage of the increased financial support being provided by the Central Government under the Khelo India programme.

The Union Sports Minister informed him that once Khelo India funds become available, Mizoram would be among the states given priority consideration for support.

Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also attended a programme in New Delhi on the evening of September 8 to send off athletes representing India at the Asian Games.
