Aizawl, September 2026: Following the initiative of Health Minister Lalrinpuii, a 12-member medical team from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research, Chennai, arrived in Mizoram on Friday to conduct a screening camp to identify patients requiring heart surgery.
The members of the medical team are:
- Dr. J.S.N. Murthy – Professor of Cardiology
- Dr. T. Periyasamy – Head & Professor, CTVS
- Dr. Anand Kumar – Assistant Professor, Paediatric Cardiology
- Ms. Malathy – Assistant Manager
- Dr. Lakshmi Priya – DM Cardiology Postgraduate
- Dr. Aaludeen – DM Cardiology Postgraduate
- Ms. Vasudha – Junior Echo Technologist
- Ms. Nandhini – Junior Echo Technologist
- Ms. E. Bhuvaneswari – Floor In-charge, B1 Cardiology
- Ms. Lalthutiâmngheti – Senior Lecturer, SRFSES
- Ms. Shanthi Kumari R – Junior Assistant Nursing Superintendent
- Mr. Poongavanam – Health Assistant
The screening camp began on Friday evening at Zoram Medical College & Hospital in Falkawn and will continue until the afternoon of September 19, 2026.
Patients identified during the screening as requiring heart surgery will be referred to Chennai, where they will undergo the necessary procedures free of cost under the hospital’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre had previously provided free heart surgeries to 33 patients from Mizoram under its CSR programme last year.
The continuation of this initiative is expected to provide significant relief to patients in Mizoram who require heart surgery, particularly those who may otherwise face difficulties in accessing specialised cardiac treatment.
The initiative is being undertaken with the support and efforts of Health Minister Lalrinpuii to facilitate advanced cardiac care for patients from the state.
