Hyderabad, Sep 2026 : Hyderabad Police have registered a case against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao, the party’s Deputy Leader in the Telangana Assembly T. Harish Rao and several other legislators in connection with Monday’s confrontation at the Assembly entrance.
According to the FIR filed by Detective Inspector M. Balaswamy, the BRS leaders, who were wearing black T-shirts carrying political slogans, allegedly attempted to enter the Assembly premises despite security restrictions imposed on the Speaker’s directions. The police have accused them of obstructing security personnel, abusing women constables, threatening staff, grabbing policemen by their collars and pushing members of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT).
Former ministers Jagdish Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, Sabita Indra Reddy and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, along with legislators Padi Kaushik Reddy, Shambipur Raju, Sanjay, Vijayudu, Sudheer Reddy and Kova Lakshmi, have also been named in the FIR.
The case has been registered at Saifabad Police Station under Sections 121(1), 132, 74, 79, 351, 352 and 353 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The provisions invoked include offences relating to causing hurt to a public servant on duty, assault or use of criminal force against a woman, gestures or acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, intentional insult and making statements allegedly conducive to public mischief.
The action against the BRS leaders came amid heightened political tensions surrounding protests and demonstrations in and around the Telangana Assembly.
Separately, two BRS MLCs, Tata Madhusudan alias Madhu and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy, were arrested by police on Tuesday over alleged derogatory and abusive remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
The two legislators were arrested from their respective residences in the morning following a complaint lodged by Pollepalli Venkatesham, Officer on Special Duty to the Assembly Speaker.
According to the complaint, the Speaker, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste (Madiga) community, was allegedly insulted, humiliated and demeaned in public in the presence of journalists, electronic media personnel, Assembly staff and security officials.
The complaint further alleged that the remarks were made with knowledge of the Speaker’s social background and were intended to undermine his dignity and constitutional position.
Based on the complaint, Saifabad Police registered another case under Section 352 read with Section 3(5) of the BNS and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, including Sections 3(1)(r), 3(2)(va) and 3(2)(vii).
Meanwhile, the police have also registered cases against 291 BJP leaders and workers who allegedly attempted to lay siege to the Assembly while protesting over the fee reimbursement issue. Four Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members have also been booked in connection with the protests.
Another case relates to damage to the windshield of a police vehicle carrying BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao, who was detained during the demonstration near the Assembly.
Police said a couple of protesters climbed onto the vehicle while Rao was inside, resulting in damage to its windshield.
The series of cases against leaders and workers from multiple political parties highlights the heightened tensions surrounding protests near the Telangana Assembly, with police examining alleged violations of security arrangements and incidents involving public property and personnel.
