New Delhi, Sept 2026 : Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday extended birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting his 25 years in public life and his government’s focus on development, technology, infrastructure and public welfare. Modi turned 76 on Thursday.
Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat. He served as Gujarat Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014 before becoming Prime Minister in May 2014. He is currently serving his third consecutive term as Prime Minister and represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha.
The year also marks 25 years since Modi entered the highest levels of elected public office, beginning with his appointment as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001.
In a post on X, Vice President Radhakrishnan conveyed his birthday greetings and praised what he described as the Prime Minister’s “steadfast and visionary leadership”. He said India was emerging as a “bright spot” globally and was among the fastest-growing major economies.
Radhakrishnan referred to several areas while describing the changes he said had taken place during Modi’s tenure. These included digital technology, space, healthcare, infrastructure and manufacturing. He also cited the government’s claim that more than 25 crore Indians had moved out of extreme poverty.
The Vice President also referred to Modi’s terminology for regions and communities, including the designation of backward districts as “Aspirational Districts”, border villages as “Vibrant and First Villages” and the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi”.
According to Radhakrishnan, these formulations represented an approach aimed at addressing geographical marginalisation and encouraging greater participation in the country’s development journey towards “Viksit Bharat”.
He said that his travels across different parts of the country over the past year had allowed him to see what he described as the impact of development initiatives in remote areas.
Radhakrishnan also wished Modi good health, happiness and continued strength as the country pursues the goal of “Viksit Bharat @ 2047”.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also posted birthday greetings for the Prime Minister on social media. Birla said India was establishing what he described as a new identity on the global stage and referred to developments in self-reliance, innovation, digital advancement, infrastructure and public welfare.
Birla also highlighted Modi’s 25 years in public life, describing the period as significant in the context of democratic values and efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable and underprivileged sections of society.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said Modi’s public life had inspired citizens to contribute towards the objective of a developed India. He wished the Prime Minister a long life, good health and continued strength to serve the country.
The birthday greetings came as the BJP and other organisations marked Modi’s 76th birthday with programmes and public-service activities across the country. The BJP has also launched a month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” from September 17 to October 17 to mark 25 years of Modi’s public life.
