New Delhi, Sept 2026 : The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Wednesday suspended with immediate effect the licence of Ganesh Products Private Limited following an inspection that uncovered serious and critical food safety violations at its food manufacturing premises.
The inspection revealed highly unsatisfactory cleaning and sanitation conditions, with substantial accumulation of dirt, soil and dark matter across the facility. Inspectors also reported algae or fungal growth, cockroaches, rodents, flies and cobwebs in processing and storage areas.
The finished-product storage area was found to be inadequate, with products improperly stacked and kept close to walls. Ventilation in the area was also found to be insufficient, according to the inspection findings.
Inspectors observed rusting on most production containers, which were reportedly in unhygienic condition and had unwanted material deposited on them. Expired and unlabeled food materials were found stored alongside finished products, while waste, old stock, rejected lots and scrap had accumulated in food-handling areas.
The inspection further detected significant pest infestation in areas used for storing finished products and packaging materials. Dead mice, cockroaches, rodents and flies were observed at the premises. Rodent-control boxes were reportedly absent, while available pest-control equipment was found to be non-functional.
Authorities also found that the facility did not have appropriate records of testing of control samples for one year or for the shelf life of the products, as required.
Several infrastructure deficiencies were also documented. These included flaking paint, dampness, broken floor tiles and damaged corners at various locations across the premises.
The inspection team found gaps in the food safety and quality-management systems as well. Records and procedures relating to mock recalls, jewellery policy, consumer complaints, internal training and internal and external audits were reportedly unavailable.
According to FSSAI, the nature and extent of the deficiencies had the potential to compromise food safety and pose risks to public health. The authority said food manufactured under such unsanitary conditions could potentially be unsafe for consumption.
In view of the findings, FSSAI suspended the licence granted to Ganesh Products Private Limited with immediate effect. The suspension will remain in force until further orders, the food safety regulator said.
During the enforcement action, three paneer manufacturing units were found operational at the premises. However, no food business operator, owner, manager or authorised representative was present when the inspection was conducted.
The inspection team also found that the required FSSAI registration or licence certificate was not displayed at the premises. No signboard identifying the food business was found either.
Around 7,600 kg of paneer was found stored under what authorities described as grossly unhygienic and insanitary conditions. The paneer was reportedly kept in soiled containers and on unclean platforms. To prevent the stock from entering the food supply chain, the entire quantity was destroyed on the spot by the administration.
The inspection also led to the detection of several other materials at the premises, including milk powder, fabric whitener, an industrial-grade bleaching agent, refined palm oil, soybean and poster white colour.
Subsequently, another paneer manufacturing unit at Village Nai was inspected as part of the enforcement exercise. A total of four paneer samples were collected from the four units.
The samples were properly packed, sealed and labelled before being sent for laboratory analysis. Further action is expected to be based on the inspection findings and results of the laboratory testing.
