Trump Says Iran “Wants to Make a Deal So Badly” After Strikes, Claims Military Infrastructure Severely Damaged

Washington, May 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said Iran “wants to make a deal so badly” following recent American military strikes, claiming that Tehran’s military infrastructure had been largely destroyed and reiterating that the United States would not allow the country to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Speaking at the annual White House Congressional Picnic, Trump blended policy remarks with political messaging, touching on the economy, foreign policy, and domestic legislation, while repeatedly returning to developments involving Iran and wider Middle East tensions.

“We’re gonna end that war very quickly,” Trump said. “They wanna make a deal so badly. They’re tired of this.”

He said US actions were driven by what he described as urgent security concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“They have nuclear on their mind and we’re not gonna let them have a nuclear weapon,” he said. “We’ve done a hell of a job and we’re, I think we’re gonna be finished with that very quickly and they won’t have a nuclear weapon. Hopefully we’re gonna get it done in a very nice manner.”

Trump also claimed that recent strikes had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities across multiple branches.

“We wiped out their Navy. The Navy is gone. The Air Force is gone. Their anti-aircraft is gone,” he said. “All of their material that they use for warfare is gone.”

He added, “I don’t wanna say their leaders are gone because it’s not very nice, but that happens to be true.”

The remarks were made during a festive gathering on the South Lawn of the White House, attended by members of Congress, cabinet officials, and their families. Despite the informal setting, Trump used the platform to highlight what he described as major achievements of his administration.

He pointed to strong economic performance, claiming the US stock market had reached “67 all-time highs” under his leadership. He also said inflation had dropped to 1.6 per cent before recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East contributed to rising energy costs.

“America’s thriving, America’s winning, and America’s respected, perhaps like it has never been respected before,” Trump said.

The President also promoted his administration’s flagship legislative effort, which he referred to as the “Great Beautiful Bill”. He said the package combined several major reforms, including tax exemptions and economic relief measures.

Among the provisions he highlighted were “no tax on tips”, “no tax on overtime”, and changes to estate tax rules aimed at benefiting farmers and small business owners.

Trump also praised First Lady Melania Trump for her advocacy on child welfare legislation, noting her role in advancing bipartisan efforts on foster care reform. Earlier in the evening, Melania Trump had called on senators to support the “Fostering the Future Act” after its passage in the House of Representatives.

In a separate announcement, Trump revealed plans to host a major UFC event on the White House South Lawn. He said the venue would include an arena capable of seating 4,000 to 5,000 spectators, while up to 100,000 additional attendees could view the event on large outdoor screens.

The comments came against the backdrop of renewed US-Iran tensions and ongoing concerns among Washington and its allies over Tehran’s nuclear programme, as diplomatic efforts and military posturing continue to unfold across the region.
