Digital Technology and Data to Transform Farming: UP-Bihar Pact to Empower Women Farmers

Lucknow, January 2026: Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have taken a significant step to promote modern digital technology, data-driven decision-making, and climate-smart agriculture in farming. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in Lucknow between Bhooswamini, the state-level federation of women farmer producer organizations under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, and BihPro Consortium of Producer Companies Limited, Bihar’s first FPO federation.

The MoU aims to collaboratively enhance the skills of women farmers, strengthen the marketing and value addition of agricultural products, and support rural women in becoming entrepreneurs.

Technology-driven farming for women farmers:
Under the MoU, digital technology and data use in farming will be promoted extensively, enabling women farmers to make science- and evidence-based decisions. Special emphasis will also be given to adopting climate-smart agriculture practices, making farming more sustainable and profitable in the face of changing weather patterns.

Joint capacity-building initiatives by UP and Bihar:
Through this partnership, women farmers from both states will run capacity-building programs. Training, technical guidance, and innovation will connect them to modern farming techniques, helping rural women transition from self-reliant farmers to entrepreneurial leaders.

New opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment:
Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives, numerous schemes are being implemented in UP for women farmers. These initiatives will go beyond production, linking women to agri-entrepreneurship, value addition, processing, branding, and market access. This approach is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities and strengthen the rural economy.

Structured marketing and fair pricing:
A robust and transparent system is being developed for the buying and selling of agricultural products. Women farmer organizations will gain direct market access, ensuring fair prices for their produce. The agreement also emphasizes joint work on capacity building and value addition initiatives. The MoU was signed by Rajkumar Raj, President of BihPro, and Manju Devi, President of Bhooswamini.

With the integration of digital farming, climate-resilient agriculture, and entrepreneurship, the initiative promises to significantly improve the economic standing of rural women in UP and Bihar.
