Guardian Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar Orders Immediate Pothole-Free Roads in Chandrapur District
Chandrapur : Due to heavy rains over the past few days, roads throughout the district have developed numerous potholes, increasing the risk of accidents. In response to this situation, Sudhir Mungantiwar, the State Minister for Forests, Cultural Affairs, and Fisheries, as well as the Guardian Minister of the district, organized a meeting. During the meeting, Minister Mungantiwar instructed officials to urgently make the roads in the district pothole-free.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector Shrikant Deshpande, Deputy Collector Dagdu Kumbhar, Superintendent Engineer of the Public Works Department Arun Gadegone, Executive Engineers Mukesh Tangle and Sunil Kumbhe, Municipal Commissioner Vipin Paliwal, Executive Engineer of National Highways Mr. Bobde, Executive Engineer of the Zilla Parishad Mr. Pende, Chief Engineer Vijay Borikar, and other concerned officials.
In the meeting, Minister Mungantiwar reviewed the condition of the roads. According to the Zilla Parishad, there are 6,000 km of ODR (Other District Roads) and VR (Village Roads) in the district, of which 450 km of roads have been damaged. Temporary repairs will require ₹5 crore, while permanent repairs will need ₹115 crore. Minister Mungantiwar directed that immediate funding requests be made to the State’s Rural Development Department. Additionally, 39 CD work roads have been damaged, requiring ₹1.10 crore, which should be obtained from the District Planning Committee, according to the Minister.
In Chandrapur district, there are 219 km of roads under the Gadchiroli division of National Highways and 50 km of roads under the Nagpur division. Large potholes have developed on these roads, and repairs will be carried out by the contractors within seven days after the rains subside. Minister Mungantiwar also reprimanded officials for the delay in the drainage system work near Chichpalli village on Mul Road. The officials informed him that the estimates for the work have been prepared and sent to senior officers. Minister Mungantiwar instructed that the work be completed as soon as possible.
According to the Public Works Department officials, there are 686 km of state roads in the district, of which 70 km have been damaged. Additionally, out of 2,116 km of MDR (Major District Roads), 555 km have been damaged, with 70% of the work to be carried out using the WBM (Water Bound Macadam) method. The department has received ₹17.57 crore for annual maintenance, of which ₹2.28 crore will be used for temporary repairs at 74 locations. This work will be completed within 15 days after the rains subside.
According to Chandrapur Municipal Corporation officials, the city has 600 km of roads, 400 km of which are cement roads. Currently, ₹40 lakh has been allocated for temporary repairs and ₹2 crore for permanent repairs. Minister Mungantiwar instructed that potholes caused by the rains be repaired immediately.
During the meeting, Minister Mungantiwar expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the road from Bagla Chowk to Babupeeth Bridge, emphasizing the need for cement roads in the village with proper lighting. He also expressed strong displeasure over the unfinished road at Belsani. Several officials present provided information about the poor condition of roads in various locations, and Minister Mungantiwar gave immediate instructions for their repair.
The meeting was attended by various department officials, as well as Deorao Bhongale, Rahul Pawde, Dr. Mangesh Gulwade, Amar Bodlawar, and Bandu Gourkar.
