No Mahajyoti Training Programme Has Been Discontinued; Decision to Offer Online Training Based on Student Demand
Mumbai, February 2026 : It has been clarified that all competitive examination training programmes conducted through Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research and Training Institute (Mahajyoti) are being run on time and in a planned manner, and that no programme has been halted. Taking into account the growing demand from students, a decision has been taken to conduct some training programmes in online mode, according to a press release issued by the Project Director of Mahajyoti.
Mahajyoti currently implements a total of 11 types of competitive examination training programmes. Among these, training for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) State Services and Combined Group B and C examinations, as well as military recruitment training, is being conducted in offline mode. Students undergoing UPSC training receive a monthly stipend of ₹13,000 along with a one-time contingency grant of ₹18,000. Similarly, students enrolled in MPSC State Services, Combined Group B and C, and military recruitment training receive a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 and a one-time contingency grant of ₹12,000. There has been no change in the nature of these training programmes, and the stipend and contingency grants will continue to be provided regularly.
During the financial year 2025–26, benefits have so far been extended to 298 students under Maharashtra Engineering Services training, 499 under Staff Selection Commission (SSC) training, 1,500 under military recruitment training, 1,500 under MBA CAT/CMAT/CET training, 1,200 under UGC NET/CSIR/MH-SET training, 400 under UPSC training, 400 under MPSC Group B and C training, 300 under MPSC State Services training, and 3,500 students under JEE, NEET, and MH-CET training.
In addition, since examinations such as IBPS PO/Banking/Railways, SSC, Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), and MPSC Engineering Services are conducted online by nature, it has been proposed to implement these training programmes in online mode from the financial year 2026–27. As students will be able to avail training from their homes, tablets and data SIM cards will be provided instead of stipends meant for accommodation and meals.
Students have repeatedly requested Mahajyoti to offer online training. The issue was also discussed in the Legislative Council during the Budget Session in March 2025. Mahajyoti has received 44,903 applications for online training, including 4,839 for MPSC Engineering Services, 14,447 for SSC training, 18,265 for Banking/Railways/LIC training, and 7,352 for RRB training. This clearly indicates strong demand for online training among students.
Training for JEE, NEET, and MHT-CET has been offered in online mode to Class 11 and 12 science students since 2021. As these students pursue regular college education alongside exam preparation, it is not feasible for them to relocate for training. A total of 41,803 students applied for this online training, further highlighting its demand.
The tablets provided to students have strong battery backup, allowing at least 12 hours of usage on a single charge, ensuring uninterrupted learning even during power outages. Earlier, SIM cards from only two telecom companies were provided, but students are now free to choose a SIM card with better network coverage in their villages, resolving connectivity issues.
Many talented and aspiring students are compelled to take up part-time jobs due to financial constraints, while several homemakers are unable to travel to Pune or other cities for training because of household responsibilities. Offering training in online mode aims to ensure that such deserving students also benefit from Mahajyoti’s programmes.
Under the online training model, students will receive live guidance, doubt-clearing sessions, weekly tests for assessment, and study material including notes and books in PDF format. Mahajyoti aims to provide high-quality, modern training without any academic loss to students.
Considering all these facts, it has been reiterated that no training programme has been discontinued. All programmes for the current financial year have been completed, and the decision to introduce online training has been taken only after comprehensive deliberation and in response to genuine student demand.
