Stay United, Alert and Prepared: PM Modi Calls for National Readiness Amid West Asia Crisis

New Delhi, March 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged the nation to remain united, vigilant, and prepared as the ongoing conflict in West Asia continues to create prolonged global uncertainty and challenges for India.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister cautioned that the ripple effects of the crisis are likely to persist for an extended period. He emphasized the need for collective resilience, drawing parallels with the country’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We stood united and faced such circumstances during the pandemic. In the same spirit, we must remain ready now and face every challenge with patience and perseverance. This unity is our strength,” he said.

Highlighting potential internal risks during times of crisis, Modi warned that certain elements may attempt to exploit the situation. He said that all agencies responsible for maintaining law and order have been placed on high alert. Security measures have been intensified across critical sectors, including coastal and border security, cyber infrastructure, and strategic installations.

The Prime Minister also called upon state governments to act decisively against misinformation and unethical practices. He urged authorities to keep a close watch on individuals spreading fake news and engaging in hoarding or black marketing of essential commodities. “We must not allow such elements to succeed in destabilizing society during challenging times,” he stated.

Turning to the broader impact of the conflict, Modi acknowledged that the situation in West Asia remains deeply concerning and continues to escalate. He noted that the crisis has already extended beyond three weeks, with significant consequences for the global economy and daily life. Referring to briefings by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the Prime Minister said the government is closely monitoring developments.

He underlined that India faces multifaceted challenges due to the conflict, including economic pressures, national security concerns, and humanitarian responsibilities. India’s extensive trade ties with countries in the region further compound these challenges.

“The region is crucial for our trade with the world. A significant portion of our crude oil and gas imports comes from this area,” Modi said, adding that disruptions could have far-reaching implications for India’s energy security and economy.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the human dimension of the crisis, noting that nearly one crore Indians live and work in Gulf countries. Additionally, a large number of Indian crew members are employed on commercial ships operating in nearby waters. “Due to these reasons, India’s concerns are naturally greater,” he said.

Detailing the government’s response, Modi assured that all necessary steps have been taken to safeguard Indian citizens in affected regions. He revealed that he had personally spoken with leaders of several West Asian nations in two rounds of discussions, all of whom assured the safety of Indian nationals.

“Since the beginning of the conflict, every Indian in the affected countries has been provided assistance. Unfortunately, some have lost their lives and others have been injured. In such times, we are ensuring full support to their families, while the injured are receiving the best possible treatment,” he said.

Indian missions across the region remain actively engaged in assisting citizens, including workers and tourists, ensuring that help reaches everyone in need.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Prime Minister said that ensuring the safety and security of Indians, both at home and abroad, remains the top priority. He stressed that with unity, vigilance, and coordinated efforts between governments and citizens, India can effectively navigate the challenges posed by the evolving global crisis.
