Mumbai, April 2026 : Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal has announced that a permanent solution will soon be implemented to address the recurring waterlogging problem at the Andheri subway during the monsoon season.
During a review meeting held at the mantralaya, the minister directed the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to immediately initiate necessary work to resolve the issue. She stressed the need for urgent action to provide relief to local residents who face severe inconvenience every year due to flooding in the area.
A detailed assessment of flood conditions in the Andheri subway, Dawood Baug, and Azad Nagar areas was conducted during the meeting. The discussion was attended by MLA Amit Satam, Murji Patel, Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar, and other senior officials.
Misal stated that multiple long-term solutions are being considered to tackle flooding caused by the Mogra nullah. These include diverting the flow of the drain, constructing water storage tanks, and increasing the carrying capacity of the drainage system. She emphasised that these measures would significantly reduce water accumulation in the subway area during heavy rains.
To ensure a technically sound solution, a detailed study and report are being prepared by IIT Bombay. The final decision on implementation will be taken after reviewing the technical recommendations.
Officials also informed that necessary financial provisions will be made to support the project. Once implemented, these measures are expected to bring substantial relief to commuters and residents, addressing a long-standing civic issue in the Andheri area.
