Matru Seva Sangh Continues Selfless Service for Women and Children: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
105th Foundation Day of Matru Seva Sangh Celebrated
Nagpur, April 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday praised the century-old legacy of Matru Seva Sangh, stating that the institution has preserved its identity as a trusted healthcare center for the common people through sustained dedication and hard work. He assured that all necessary support would be extended to the organization’s public service initiatives as well as its new women’s hostel project as part of its centenary celebrations.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the 105th foundation day ceremony held at Ranjan Hall of Matru Seva Sangh in the Sitabuldi area of Nagpur, where he also unveiled a commemorative plaque. The event was attended by Mayor Nita Thakre, Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, President Dr. Aruna Babhulkar, Secretary Dr. Lata Deshmukh, Vice President Rashmi Bhave, and other dignitaries.
Highlighting the organization’s history, Fadnavis said Matru Seva Sangh was established before India’s independence by Padma Shri Kamalatai Hospet and Venutai Nene. At that time, maternity facilities were available only for British women at Dufferin Hospital. Recognizing the urgent need for accessible maternity care for ordinary women, the founders created facilities through the organization and ensured free services for poor patients.
He appreciated the institution for maintaining its spirit of service without allowing commercialization even after more than a century. Fadnavis emphasized that the organization has made significant contributions to women’s health, child healthcare, and reducing infant mortality. Through its maternity services, the institution has remained closely connected with the common people.
The Chief Minister also stated that funds required for the construction of the proposed women’s hostel building would be provided. He assured that the government would extend all possible assistance in line with the project’s design. He highlighted various initiatives being undertaken for safe motherhood, noting that they align with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially under programs such as “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.”
Fadnavis added that non-governmental organizations working in this sector have made important contributions, particularly in tribal and remote regions, by addressing malnutrition and improving healthcare services for women and children.
As part of the centenary year celebrations, a tree plantation campaign was also launched. The initiative was inaugurated by the Chief Minister in a unique manner by planting lemon saplings on the stage. He suggested that the organization should nurture one plant as a symbolic “centenary tree” and take responsibility for its care and preservation.
Mayor Nita Thakre also shared her views on the occasion. Dr. Aruna Babhulkar welcomed the guests, while Secretary Dr. Lata Deshmukh presented an overview of the organization’s various initiatives. The program was conducted by Jayashree Wagh, who also delivered the vote of thanks. Medical Superintendent Dr. Pushpa Bhave, along with office bearers of the institution and representatives of various social organizations, were present at the event.
